Re: What is the difference between unconditional love and compassion?

I always assumed if I was posting in the Nichiren area, it was about Nichiren. When you say none of the four immeasurables are conditional, can you eleborate? Is there any? I never know if you are asking for an overall Buddhist view, or a specifically Nichiren one, I don't know anything about the la...

Re: How important is compassion and respect when it comes to speech?

Thank you for your input. I have not read Chapter 20. In fact, I haven't read much of the Lotus Sutra at all...yet. From what I have heard about Nichiren, he did seem to respect others, even if they acted arrogant, etc, because as you mentioned, he realized that everyone wihout exception had the Bud...

Re: How important is compassion and respect when it comes to speech?

With all due respect, can we please stick to the OP? Mention us see us minobu. It's only fair. As for obsession it's rather clear given the amount of posts you make about a school you dont belong too. So the question is why concern yourself so much with us? Anyway... the thread is beyound surreal......

How important is compassion and respect when it comes to speech?

I don't want to be political here, but piggy-backing off of the recent Presidential debate had me wondering; how important is right speech in the Nichiren context? Shouldn't we be mindful of how we engage with others and how we speak? I would love your take on this. This isn't necessarily about the ...

Re: Apparently yesterday was Son's day?

Ty. It is hard not to internalize a parent's inability to love us, but at least I'm moving from resentment and self-hatred to wholeness and healing. It's just hard sometimes. Ty I can't help but feel reminded of the fact that my narcissistic mother doesn't love me or act like I'm her Son. I understa...

Apparently yesterday was Son's day?

I can't help but feel reminded of the fact that my narcissistic mother doesn't love me or act like I'm her Son. I understand her own dysfunction, her own inability to love. But somehow, I can't help but feel the pain of feeling forgotten, unloved, etc. And, now there's a day called Son's day? aye ya...

Is being part of Nichiren sect a requirement to be a Nichiren Buddhist?

I like Nichiren Shu. They seem to have their teachings and doctrines laid out in their materials in an easily understandable manner, but yet, I still can't bring myself to belong to a sect? Am I going to eventually just have to get over this and join one, or can I just practice independently and yet...

Re: Is anyone here familiar with Reiyukai?

Their temple there is beautiful, at least from the outside. It's quite interesting too. I've never been, but it is interesting. You would think that if they want to expand or have more members, they'd put out at least more reading materials. Getting to the nitty gritty of their doctrines, etc is nea...

Re: Is anyone here familiar with Reiyukai?

Thanks for that info! Sounds like it- no temple/lineage affiliation as such that I came across- though I did find a reference in the Coffeehouse pages that Don Ross made at least a few copies of the Prayer Gohonzon for Reiyukai members. https://pounceatron.dreamhosters.com/nichirenscoffeehouse.net/G...

Haven't found much info about them anywhere on Google, yet I believe they are a Nichiren sect.

Re: What does the word Faith mean, according to Nichiren?

Ty so much! That is a lot to take in and chew on but I'm looking forward to it! Thanks again for that insight. And more specifically, how does Nichiren's teachings on faith differ from our usual, Western understanding of it? Basically, it refers to a very subtle turn of the mind. Its the moment the ...
