Re: Western-Born (English) Tibetan Buddhist Teachers Like Alan Wallace

My approach is, take the claims of all seriously, evaluate them for their merits, and decide on the course of action in this life that gets you to Buddhahood the fastest. Buddhahood or bust, otherwise we're just messing around and will end up right where we started. If that were true, you would alr...

^ Would Shingon agree to that though? Or is that our mere school victory chant? (Yay, we got it all complete)

Is it correct then to say that as long as a Mahayana Buddhist is generating bodhichitta, they are Bodhissatva?

When are we Bodhisattvas?

When do we become Bodhisattvas?

Can we be Bodhisattvas in this life?

Is this something that you can confirm (to yourself) or confirmed by others that you are one?

or are our actions in this life a preparation for our Bodhisattva path in the next lives?

Re: Where are the enlightened Westerners?

Vajrayana promises enlightenment in this lifetime. Where are all the enlightened Western Buddhists? We are roughly 60 years into the experiment of Westerners practicing Vajrayana. I know many people who have benefitted greatly from Vajrayana Buddhism, myself included, so this isn't really an indict...

Re: Why do some lay teachers of Tibetan traditions wear maroon monk robes?

I just recently learned that my favorite lama DKR was not a monk. The maroon monk robe did give me the idea that he was a monk. The moment I found out he was not a monk and the reason why he wears the robe, I love him even more. hehe

Re: There's a reincarnation of Chogyam Trungpa and emanation of Padmasambhava?

And now we have the wait and see whether the paternity test for Karmapa OTD proves to be positive or not, should there be one. Uh. Can someone fill me in on this? Out of the loop on all of that. The Karmapa (Ogyen Trinley Dorje) has been sued (1) by a woman (2) who has alleged that she became pregn...

Re: Have you heard of "Nyingma Psychology"?

I'm hoping to learn this outside the structured paid (expensive for me) courses by his students. So my question is where to learn this knowledge besides that.

Have you heard of "Nyingma Psychology"?

This is the first time I've heard of it: https://nyingmainstitute.com/nyingma-psychology/

I'm curious if there are other ways to learn this outside the course (paid course) setting.

This is the reason why I asked. I thought I need transmission and initiation for this text.

What Nyingma groups/organizations/institute are there in the West or for Western audience?

Something that provides training online (in English) and/or has a local presence in North America? I'm thinking of something similar to Nyingma Institute. (nyingmainstitute.com)

I'm curious as to what other groups are there similar to that. Ideally, something that has more cost-friendly options.

You can't just read WOMPT? Do you have to have an initiation/transmission for it?

Re: There's a reincarnation of Chogyam Trungpa and emanation of Padmasambhava?

Perhaps this is an irreconcilable difference in values. I can understand both perspectives. The boundaries on what is appropriate are different for both. So it's just that. Different. But now that we're here, in this time period and culture, Vajrayana must adapt to the time and place or things will ...

Re: There's a reincarnation of Chogyam Trungpa and emanation of Padmasambhava?

So about the reincarnation of Chogyam Trungpa, how come he doesn't seem to have the same continuation of Chogyam Trungpa's favorite pastime? What happened to the memory, habits, etc? Because he is not the same person, probably not even the actual rebirth of Trungpa. Thank you. In the case that it i...

So the mechanics of this aggregates. Where are they? Where are these aggregates? Are they in our mind, outside, in some metaphysical space/domain?

Re: Let's talk about common misconceptions of Buddhism

Well I just love that. I say that too. My experience though in doing that is there are people who smile at this. Secular "Buddhists". They hear something like that and they feel that they've been legitimized for their secular point of view.
