Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

So we wish to extinguish that which is the root cause to suffering, Karma. This is why in Mappo with the teachings of Nichiren there is the best opportunity for sentients to accomplish this. And to once again go back to my saying I see Buddhism as a means to get back in tune with Mother Nature(for ...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

My main attraction to Nichiren, 45 years into it, is the whole process of making one's life better. All of Nichiren's Gosho are showing us the way to this accomplishmnet. What does Nichiren want of us? To work on ourselves through the core practice of lessening one's karmic retribution and blowing o...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

This does not mean that the suffering of life can be dismissed. When suffering is experienced it is experienced as real - painful, stressful, etc. That is why we want to overcome suffering. I hesitate to claim you are coming from a nihilistic approach to all this. But it does seem that way. Check w...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

You're not going far enough in your analysis. Fair enough. My view of Buddhism is a personal one. I don't distinguish between lets say Mother Nature and Buddhism. My concept of Japan is one of a culture intrinsically connected to Mother Nature and all that ,that implies. This vessel we are dwelling ...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

So the problem lies in not realizing that the concept of emptiness pertains to both existence and non existence at the same time. The danger is becoming too nihilistic and thinking that it's all an illusion totally. Instead of illusion-like. When Lord Buddha Nagarjuna says no this and no that it's i...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

I think the concept QQ has shown in the sutra is to make samsara more bearable for the Bohdisatva. On one hand you have all this suffering everywhere. What to do eh? So we suffer along with other sentients leading them to correct speech action and thought in order for them to overcome the continuati...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

http://dharmagateway.org/dharma16.htm The passage in question: To look upon the cycles of living and dying with dislike and to try and avoid them is a pointless delusion and a mental outlook of the enlightenment of the historical Shākyamuni in Buddhagāya, which, in this case, entails all the provis...

Re: Nichiren Shonin's teachings

So I believe if you view this Sutra which appeared in our history as being authentique and directly from the Buddha, then it is Buddha . Even though more than likely by proxy. Almost all the sutras were taught by the Buddha, and for that all could be called a buddha, but only in the sense of repres...

Re: Nichiren Shonin's teachings

Obviously because The Sutra IN and of Itself is Buddha . In what sense? The sutra, like other sutras, was taught by Shakyamuni Buddha, and before him by other buddhas, so in a way it's a representation of buddhas. But how is it itself a buddha? In what sense ? Well as you might know all this is bas...

Re: Nichiren Shonin's teachings

My question is why would you find it necessary for "Zhiyi (to) explain in detail how the specific teachings, powers, treasure houses, and aspects can be found in the Lotus Sutra?" when the Lotus Sutra itself has already delineated that it has? Because while there is a statement that it co...

Re: Nichiren Shonin's teachings

The variety of Buddhist teachings are all intended to nudge one towards eventual attainment of Buddhahood. Nichiren's practice is flawlessly simple . It's here due to the nature of Mappo and aimed at the level of sentients that dwell on earth during this time of darkness. It's method of dealing with...

Nichiren Shonin's teachings

I'm really happy as of late. There is this saying that Tibetan Buddhism is a complete teaching. The reason they give is that so many different practices are incorporated into the whole. Vipassana and various Tantric and Mahamudra practices all are accepted. If one understand the Gohonzon one sees th...

Though Eternity one passes through as a Bohdisatva of the Earth . All are going through the same thing no matter what sect they end up in .
Secular concepts are just that , concepts.

What ever sect you feel best in, is the one for you this time around.

Re: Is it OK to pray for your enemies to die?

Meaning no offense here, I am not a Nichiren practitioner, but wishing Ill will on someone by itself is an obstacle. Actually directing your practice towards harming them is about as adharmic as you can get, no matter the practice. You should not volitionally engage in harming others through your i...

Re: Is it OK to pray for your enemies to die?

Yes, but first realize that your real enemies are the three poisons, not the people outside. Pray for your anger, ignorance and attachment to die. Of course you are correct. In this case the person seems to want to chant for the enemy to die. So obviously they are not concerned for repercussions or...

Re: Is it OK to pray for your enemies to die?

To actually decide to chant NMRK in order to kill someone. I would encourage the person to do so. It would never come about, but the methog the person is using ,is medicine. So along with their massive delusional hatred their time spent chanting,is the best medicine. So yeah chant your heart out on ...

Re: What does sticking with practice tell you?

I would like to add to that Love and compassion is the number one attribute to any philosophy religion practice coming about by the turning of the Dharma Wheel.
This of course is what was told to me by my beloved Kalden Geshe La. It’s been debated here at DW. Which of course is always welcome

. I am certain that I will be a Wheel Turning King in the future. This is the place we live to enjoy happiness and I am happy. Wheel Turning Kings ,are not fanatics, for they allow for all the Buddha's practices that come about from The Buddha turning The Dharma wheel. When The Buddha Turns The Dha...
