Re: SN Goenka retreats
Hi. I have just came back from a goenka retreat while being a kagyu student. It worked very well with me. The technique is really well explained and the silence and rules make it more intense and serious. It was very helpfull. It helped me to see how difficult this path really is and it was a great ...

Re: Shine without objet and mahamudra
I've been pondering this thread, because the question is a delicate one, IMO. Went back and reviewed some notes, in fact, and had a "think" about it for a while...so, here's the result. Objectless Samatha is about undistractedness. One maintains awareness of "now," and doesn't allow oneself to get ...

Re: Questions on visualizations
I cannot recommend strongly enough the book "Creation and Completion: Essential Points of Tantric Meditation" by Jamgon Kongtrul, translated by Sarah Harding, if you are engaged in deity visualization. A quote: "The clear form of the deity is the luminous appearance of your own mind, and the unclea...

Re: Problems with compassion meditation
There is nothing at all wrong with wanting to make your life a little better! Just extend the feeling to want to make the lives of others a little better as well, knowing that all beings are looking to do the same thing but most of the time don't know what will make them truly happy. Compassion is ...

Shine without objet and mahamudra
Im getting a little confused with this to meditations. Is it shine without object the same method as resting in the emptiness of mind like the mahamudra teachings explain?. I understand that the experience is different. One leads to a samadhi state while the other while already having the mind calm ...

Re: Problems with compassion meditation
Grief or depression could make it difficult. Compassion begins at home. Maybe it sounded worst than it is. It was a small problem but i thought it was a good opportunity to start my compassion meditation again. I had the same problem with my tonglen practice, in the beginning it was strong and vibr...

Re: Doing a goenka retreat while beeing a kagyu student?
What does your teacher think, TaTa, if you have one? I do but unfortunately i wont be able to see him for a couple of months because he went on reatreat and the activites in my local center are suspended in summer, and i also go on a 1 or 2 month trips now. Re: Moving in a rut
I try to meditate. Thoughts 'ambush' me, catch myself, sigh, return to breath. Repeat, repeat, repeat. It feels like I am going in circles. Does this even have any benefit? I am not sure what I must do for a breakthrough. If you do it every day it does have a benefit. In my humble opinion there is ...

Doing a goenka retreat while beeing a kagyu student?
I'm analyzing the possibility of going to a goenka retreat although im really interested in tibetan buddhism. I would like to know how i would response to a retreat like that and im thinking that maybe it would be a nice base before going into more "complex" vajrayana practices. What do you think fe...

Re: Ready for sadhanas?
From my experience I can say that an understanding of emptiness is the minimum requirement to have any success with Tantra at all. Shinay and Bodhicitta will improve your practice but mastery isn't required, just a good grasp. You can master them in Tantra. I guess that you are talking about an int...
