One of the most insidious aspects of OCD is that it can express is very functional and talented people. Imagine being top of the class, excelling at things others struggle at, representing a respected profession and reaching the pinnacle through mastery on all levels. OCD is a compatible as a drive...

Re: Vajra Armor (Dorje Gotrab) Question
The bottom line for me with this thread (and so many others this last year on DW) is that I just don't believe you can practice Vajrayana effectively via Internet alone . You need a personal Teacher Who you interact with in meat-space, at least from time to time -- a Teacher Who knows you, knows yo...

Re: Ngondro as a complete path to enlightenment
... Another point, I have found that a tolerance for cognitive dissonance is a necessary quality for Vajrayana practitioners. Hi Charlie, I think that your comment is leading us to the land of "it depends what you mean". Because you refer to a "tolerance" I get the feeling that ...

Re: Ngondro as a complete path to enlightenment
One size does not fit all. Taking one good piece of advice, one sound working approach, then reifying it into an adamantine principle and trying to force-fit the whole rich complexity of Tibetan Buddhism into it is a recipe for cognitive dissonance. It is particularly unhelpful for those at a relat...

Re: Where to get a Damaru fast (online)
Hello all, I was hoping to practice a Sadhana during my coming vacation, but it requires a Bell and a Damaru. I have the bell arriving hopefully soon, but I'm having trouble finding a Damaru under $60 that would arrive before or around Christmas. Am I out of luck? I contacted the dharma center that...

Re: Number of mantras per day
I can't believe there can be a general answer to your question. The number must be an individual decision depending on the person and their circumstances. I would say everything between seven, 1080 or uncounted is okay. A number depends on the length of the mantra as well, I think. And quality of r...

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine
Rigpa>marigpa. Doesn’t seem all that strange to me. That just means you, nominally, don’t get it. Pure phenomena cannot produce impure phenomena. Buddha qualities cannot give rise to their opposite. If they could, Buddhas could become sentient beings. Sounds like you’ve never met a fallen tulku. Tr...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Dzogchen Empowerment
In recent months, GBI has been very good about distributing relevant texts for teachings and empowerments. I expect that they will make something available to those who attend the empowerment stream. I tried to get a sadhana of Raktayamari.... since 2017.... not so easy to get an answer, or even th...

Re: Vajra Guru Mantra vs 7LP
The 7LP is awesome for long drives. I like to recite it while making the trip to my dharma center (which is a 4.5 hour drive). Sets the mood just right. :) Yeah, I like doing it driving, it's pretty easy to just get into a certain rhythm and resonance where it kind of flows and leads to a sort of ....

thanks everybody! :) why is the vajrasattva mantra top secret? It's all over the internet! It is something that comes from the tantras, not the sutras. It cannot be practiced without some sort of transmission or empowerment. There are many mantras and images “all over the internet” that are really ...
