As I understand it we have to be in KETOSIS in order to burn fat. That means the muscles have to be glycogen depleted. Combine fasting, low carb and High intensity interval training for awesome success! This link helps explain because I'm too lazy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketone_bodies Ketosi...

Tibetan architectural color schemes

I've always loved the vibrant colors on some of the Tibetan houses, temples, etc. Is there a rhyme and reason to the color schemes? If so, what's the idea behind them? Any recommended books on the subject would be most appreciated!

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

You can practice chod for anyone who needs it. I've heard from Lama Allione that one must have permission to do so from the person you wish to perform it on. I've not seen any specific textual instructions for doing so, however. Maybe something to ask senior students or if any one here has a refere...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

It seems that sometimes chöd can be performed for non-practitioners in order to benefit them. Is there a protocol for doing this with the chöd practice Rinpoche has taught us, or is the understanding that we should only do it in the presence of those who have received transmission? I am partially a...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I don't think you can download the videos, they are embedded on the website. Maybe it is possible with an addon or something like that. It is possible to download them with the addon - I tried it before. But to share them...? TaTa If you can get some kind of permission from SSI I can download and s...

Who's in conflict? It's just that: hearsay. I'd not invest a single thing in this unless heard from a definitive source.

Re: What is the best way to deal with an overly inquisitive/suffocating friend?

I have a friend (well, he's my roommate really) and I swear, whenever he wakes up, if i'm in the study or whatever, he'll come out and automatically start firing off questions (not in an angry way but just hurriedly? almost) like, "do you work today?", "what are your plans today?&quo...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Noob question - is it ok to append the mantra of Vajrasattva to the short Ganapuja ? If so, at which section can this be done? Also, with regards to solitary practice, is there a difference in efficacy between the short/medium/long Thuns and Ganapuja? I understand that longer sessions are particula...

This is a note that appears on the webcast page. It's probably been there long time but i I only noticed it last week. Maybe there are some points here that are relevant to the discussion that took place here. "It’s easy to mistake official membership in The International Dzogchen Community as...

Re: Importance of Secrecy in Secret Mantra

I think it depends on context. If Secret Mantra is practised within the context of Sutra, for example within the context of Lamrim teachings, then secrecy is not necessary because the practice will be correctly intentioned and not misused. It must be presented within the context of a complete path ...

Somehow, I don't think the sun would sound anything like that. It would probably sound more like roaring flames and explosions. Good to see NASA wasting tax money on complete and utter bullshit, while conservatives complain about where the funding would come from for universal health care. :rolling...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Pardon me, if one is going to purchase the Chod book, does one need to buy the Chod mp3 with the explanation, and practice too? Are the Chod book, and the mp4 practice video enough to learn from? If you are getting the Mp4 I think youre fine. The book contains an explanation of the practice, and th...

Re: boring questions about losing weight

Sounds very ascetic to me. I'm guessing only a small % of humans could manage it. For a nosher with a tendency to low blood sugar like me it would be nigh unto impossible! Did you have a hard time getting used to it? Do you ever have a hard time staying on it? (Do you cheat? ;-) ) Correct, it may n...

Re: boring questions about losing weight

Calorie counting does not work in the end. Exercise is always good but not reliable for weight loss. Incorporate as much raw as you can. How do you figure cal count "does not work in the end"? Once one reaches their ideal weight it's very easy to maintain if one isn't going off the deep e...

Re: boring questions about losing weight

Calorie counting is a tried and true method, I lost 20 lbs over 2 months on a pretty balanced macros of 40℅ protein and 30% fats, 30% carbs. Other folks may find they respond better to different macro ratios. In the realm of exercise strength training with weights has proven to be very effective as ...

Re: Yidams on a bikini

There's a post going around on social media addressing the depictions of Buddha, Tara, and some yidams being placed on bathing suits, skirts, shirts, etc. and people are expressing “outrage” and are calling for a boycott of Amazon who is selling this merchandise. As practitioners I would think folk...
