Recently, a family member told me that "without God, we are nothing".
I wondered what my Buddhist friends here might say to that line of thinking.

I thought this would've been the appropriate area since I am a Nichiren Buddhist.

Re: Why do hundreds of people view postings here for new threads but only few respond?
I don't mind reprise. I also couldn't care less how superior someone may think they are on here. Their responses will undoubtedly say more about them. A lot of people are intimidated to join, because they fear reprisal from a perceived "DharmaWheel elite" who will cruelly reprise them if they post s...

Not negative, just an observation and question really. Anyone is free to provide input or not. I don't control time nor the affairs of others. No time wasted here. Even w the one comment (yours), has much to teach. :sage: Would be nice if more of our Buddhist brothers and sisters contributed more he...

Would be nice if more of our Buddhist brothers and sisters contributed more here to the discussions.

Re: Would Nichiren Buddhism be a good religion for space?
lol I haven't personally studied Sutras. In fact, I really only have a surface to mid-level understanding of Nichiren Buddhsim's teachings from a summarized sort of viewpoint. The rest of my knowledge you could say has come from personal experience in my own life, seeing the poiwer of NamMyohoRengeK...

Re: Would Nichiren Buddhism be a good religion for space?
Very interesting about the line in one of the Sutras about many worlds. I wasn't aware of that! In other words, if we discovered alien life, etc, how would this affect our view towards our religion and also, out of all other religions, why would Nichiren Buddhism be the best one as we ...

Would Nichiren Buddhism be a good religion for space?
In other words, if we discovered alien life, etc, how would this affect our view towards our religion and also, out of all other religions, why would Nichiren Buddhism be the best one as we move into space exploration etc?

Re: If our honesty is hurtful to some, should we remain silent?
I actually deleted recently. Deciding on a new title. Hi everyone! So the reason I'm asking this question is because I currently am blogging about Nichiren Buddhism and I want to share a bit about my life, how I grew up and what I went through. My family has my blog address and I'm worried that my m...

Re: I lost my job today...
Well actually, I haven't been practicing consistently. In fact, i've struggled immensely with doubt. It was only until I realized my job was in jeopardy that I started chanting again. Nevertheless, I do need to work on my laziness. It ultimately cost me a good job. I chanted that I wouldn...

I lost my job today...
I chanted that I wouldn't but I did. I've been out quite a bit so it's my own fault but. I guess I was just hoping that my chanting would work and that they'd listen to my plea to keep my job.

Re: I chanted to have better relations with people and then something awkward happened between a friend and me?
I appreciate your insight and i've def thought about that.. "The fact that you handled it well means your chanting works." Thanks a bunch. Really helps to have perspective. Some of us often get the impression that chanting will just prevent and fix everything and to some extent I think that's true b...

I chanted to have better relations with people and then something awkward happened between a friend and me?
Why did this happen? I don't want to get into details but basically my friend wound up saying something that really didn't set right w me. I handled it well, but still. Why didn't my daimoku seem to pay off?
