Re: Can buddha nature be proved?

Ju Mipham discuss three points from Mahayana-Uttaratantra: 1) Because the body of the perfect Buddha is radiant, 2) Because thusness (de bzhin nyid ) is indivisible, 3) Because of possessing heritage; Therefore, all beings always possess the essential nature of Buddha. For ex., if one thinks that pe...

Re: Can buddha nature be proved?

When something is explained, such as Buddhanature, the explanation often is of what is talked about, what is named. If you want to equate an explanation with 'proof', go ahead. Proof by reasoning. Ju Mipham did not just write a book because there was nothing to do... But this is not real...

Re: Can buddha nature be proved?

It can be proved, since objects of Buddhist discourse beyond the two extremes, but only Buddhas can see it directly. Or it can be partially proven from writings and conclusions. For example if there is upadana skandhas then Trikaya is possible. Proof is not metaphysical speculation or any kind of d...

Re: Merging Theravada vipassana with the Tibetan version

Vipassana and it's stages is all about distinguishing tilakkhana-marks. It is not concentration of bodhisattvas. I don't say that it is completely different but tell me please how one can combine this? Superiority of object (ālambanaviśeṣa) because the adhicitta concerns (ālambate) the doctrine of t...

Re: Are thoughts random or karmic? Or neither or both?

There are two modalities of vinnana: vipaka (result of actions\kamma) and javana (impulse). So when you see unpleasant form, an old woman for ex., it is vipaka-citta of your past lobha (thirst) for ex. But when you think in reply to that it is active consiousness and creates kamma that will be exper...

Re: Everybody speaks about samaya, but nobody knows what it

When we talk about dependent origination, there are five: outer, inner, secret, ultimate and sucheness. If you really want to understand this, then you should go and study Lamdre with the Sakyapas. Very interesting! Are these features (from secret to suchness) arranged some how like vajrayana style...

Shakyamuni Buddha was a human that achieved Buddhahood and thus humans are capable of achieving Buddhahood in this lifetime, is a MUCH easier concept for me to wrap my head around. I used to to count it all :? In the best case one needs 3 asamkhya kalpas to become a buddha and 33 in the worst. This...

Re: Enlightenment success rate

As I pointed out already, the idea the formless realms are actually formless is a debatable point upon which there is disagreement. According to the the Theravada tradition as well as the Dzogchen tradition, there are no disembodied minds anywhere in the three realms, and with respect to the latter...

Re: Can buddha nature be proved?

So I've been thinking about various buddhist doctrines: Suffering, Cause and Effect, impermenance, non-self, emptiness, interpenetration, non-duality and buddha nature. Now all of these concepts make sense to me except for buddha nature. After all, how can we have an essential nature if we are ulti...

Re: Authentic?

Akhm... buddaksetras begin from a human birth in a world where there is Dharma. Nobody promises that one will find oneself at the Tushita or Akanishtha even if phova was performed. P.D. Rinpoche wrote about this in "Mind beyond death" If I remember correctly.

Re: Authentic?

"as objects" reflects on the interpretation of the appearance and not on the appearance in itself, no? Buddha actually doesn't see s\beings. Even savaka buddha see interrelation of bhavanga-citta\cetasika\rupa. But the words of tantra is neutral to the soteriological issues. Is it a question of con...

Arachnoid cyst

Greetings to all! Is there anything useful in TM for arachnoid cysts? I was near dead-line a year and a half ago because of it but had an operation (the occipital bone was removed (c) and the main cysts were pierced (they were in the 4-th ventricles of the brain). After the operation I could only wr...

Re: dalai lama conflict science buddhism change

I can only say that if the most advanced that there is in the philosophy of consciousness is the works of D. Chalmers then Dharma most likely will change it's wrapper with Maitreya or with some very advanced teacher. How do you imagine a refutation of phonemology? Only by the purpose for which it is...

Can anybody say the text is same or different?

I can't order these books cause the delivery price will be mad. I wanted to buy "Bodhisattvabhumi" by Asanga a year ago but delivery priced as two more books :? So I had to forsake this idea.

Re: enlightment in one life

Without listening and thinking there is no right bhavana. The Ch'an tradition have very strange writings. It is unclear what the text is about. Sotapanna\pramudita is enlightening too at the end. Perhaps it is about some stages of understanding after which there is already no fall below the men's lo...

Re: Buddhist Deities

How would anybody explain the “reality issue” of Buddhist Deities (as in the Tibetan system ) to somebody who tries to understand it? Some try to explain it, that Buddhist Deities are Jungian Archetypes. Others explain it as “quasi real aspects” as in they’re not real and at the same time real and ...
