Re: enlightment in one life

There is trikaya even on 1-st bhumi but not as developed as on the 10-th bhumi for ex. (according to yogacara of Asanga). Nothing surprizing that there are tulkus with strange conduct. As for me I don't believe that all Karmapas, HHDLs etc. were lineages of the same consiousness. There could be stud...

Re: Transfer of merit and Tibetan practices

Even the Buddha had disciples whom he could not help. Sure, but he also had many disciples who he did help. Are you saying they would have been enlightened at that time without him? If you're stuck in a well, you can't get out without help. At the same token, if someone lowers you a rope to pull yo...

Re: Transfer of merit and Tibetan practices

If the transfer of merit was literally working then all of us would have been released long ago. There is a well-founded suspicion that in addition to your qualities you do not develop anything. Because consciousness of Tara is her amala-vijnana-suit and your alaya-vijnana is your's. Even the Buddha...

Re: Questions on death

1) The consiousness completely leaves the body when there is a first smell of decay as I remember but I don't know about it's reaction to the post-death surgery. 2) One can "transcend" the elements up to Brhatphala-level without being a buddhist. If I understand your question correctly. It is very h...

Re: NOT another Jhana Thread

Vipassana is the closest way for becoming sotapanna. Nowadays vipassana is not combined with samatha in an exotic-upadesa-style-way. (maybe in Vijja Dhammakaya but authencity of their methods is questioned). This is all that is at the moment. Yaeh I can't go down that route. Samatha and Vipassayna ...

Re: 32 marks of the Buddha

The Diamond Sutra appears to deconstruct the whole idea: “Subhūti, what do you think, can the Tathāgata be seen by his physical marks?” “No, World Honored One, the Tathāgata cannot be seen by his physical marks. And why? It is because the physical marks are spoken of by the Tathāgata as no physical...

Oh, I see! Students will be encouraged to practice their own retreat on the deity, accumulating man...

The big request not to cancel webcasts next time ) (Yes I believe in the lung-transmission in vajrayana teachings). It's not very pleasant to wait until 5 am for the sake of an empty screen :anjali: Thank you!

Take a look at this article from Thanissaro Bhikkhu: https://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/thanissaro/onetool.html Please read the books of ven. Ledi Sayadaw, ven. Pa Ayuk Sayadaw or ven. Dr. Nandamalbhivamsa. It is clear that you are not familiar with the comments. Thanissaro Bhikkhu makes "...

Re: Enlightened and mundane Dakinis

To be honest, these tales of 'skillful means' have only traumatized me and held me back for years. Ahahaha ))) The same story! I was so frightened by prasanga-demagoguery, fairy tales, enlightenment from devotion and popularization of mysology that run away in one year from Ole Nydhal and from the ...

Oh, man... You assume that you found in the canon what the monks did not notice for 2000 years... Ok. )) What? Its actually that your claim (which follows abhidhamma and the commentaries) is not found in the suttas. Your finding something in the canon that isn't there. Since English is not my nativ...

Re: Has the Heart Sutra Been Finally Proven as Chinese Apocrypha?

This sutra says that there is not only sunya of pudgala as Lesser Vehicle states but also absence of bhava\abhava dichotomy as nirvana\samsara related to the 5 skandhas of bodhisattva\apratisthita nirvana. That is why there is no Path of Lesser Vehicle etc. So it is not sufficient to prove HS as chi...

Can you find a sutta which describes the formless as jhana? Oh, man... You assume that you found in the canon what the monks did not notice for 2000 years... arupa dhyanas The formless attainments are not called jhana in the early suttas, later in the commentaries they are, but not by the Buddha. Re: Yes, you need a teacher.

I do not hold the opinion that reading differs from hearing regarding sutras and sastras, because 1) saw enough people with years of "live communication" who are not able to understand or explain anything about buddhism but instead leading others astray 2) because in the time of the Buddha nothing w...

Re: A Modern Yogācāran?

GIven he probably has never heard of Yogacara, you've got a point, but I found some of the things he said were drifting that way - minus terminology etc. The proposition that mind creates the experience and (as he terms it) mass hallucination upon which we all agree constitutes "reality". This indi...

What he says and writes has the same relation to yogacara as to sarvastivada-vaibhasika or sautrantika or theravada. Not even approximately.

Re: False Memories and Questionable Buddhist Lore

I don't know the exact text but through reasoning it may be known that one can't take birth in lower realms with avarice alone. It must be combined with false views etc. to become abhi- high, big or exessive.
