Re: Buddhism on actors

Since we are at it, does anybody know any other scriptures talking about the Hell of Laughter? It doesn't seem to appear on the traditional list of the 8 cold and 8 hot narakas.

Re: Dzogchen Practitioner to Amitabha-like Buddha

Basically, even the worst Dzogchen practitioner is guaranteed birth in the four natural nirmanakāya buddhafields, 125 human years in each, at the end of which time (500 hundred human years), one will attain full buddhahood in the Amoghasiddhi's buddhafield. This is much better than the endless mill...

Re: Karmic consequences of suicide in the tibetan tradition

Isn't murdering someone else much worse than killing yourself? No idea. Ask Garchen Rinpoche. But IMHO, you could look at it in terms of remedial actions available. If you kill someone else, no matter how heavy that karma is, you can still regret, apply the antidotes and purify it afterward...

Re: Karmic consequences of suicide in the tibetan tradition

What are the karmic consequences of suicide in the tibetan tradition? Garchen Rinpoche on suicide: There is no greater negativity than committing suicide–one creates a very powerful cause of intense suffering by taking one’s own life. You must understand that all suffering has its seat in the self-...

Re: Fantasy

I see a lot of so called practitioners living in a fanttasy. People play dress up and act like ngakpa"s or yogini"s. Some say they are dakini"s and vwear chubpas and ornaments.. Others act wildly and say what ever comes into there mind. They think they arre being spontaneous and beyond right and wr...

Re: DNA TESTS

So, I had my DNA ancestry test done as a birthday present recently. Armed with the results and my family tree I can now confirm that I am mostly Irish (from around Tipperary, rural poor) almost a third Austrian (Vienna, bastard royalty), about a fifth English (Yorkshire), and the rest mostly Scandi...

Re: How do you know you're not just making karma worse??

I also have a question which I hope does not derail the thread but only complements the OP's query. It is said that at the time of death, "whichever actions carry the greatest effect, whichever are closest, whichever more habitual and whichever were done first - these will be the first to ripen". Wo...

Re: LARGE BRONZE OFFERING THINGY

Solved. It is a Persian Qajar Candle Holder. The Middle part is upside down. :) Wow...how cool ! I thought it looked Persian... Look at this for $5,000 : http://armsandantiques.com/fine-19th-c-qajar-persian-candlesticks-ii486 But wouldn't that be a pity, spending $5k on a couple of candle-holders? ...

Re: Collective karma

Revolutions, punitive actions, as well as deliberate oppression, only lead one way: to lower realms. What about the underlying intention? What if one leads a revolution out of genuine love for his suffering fellow men? "... When I think of all the misfortunes in life that lie in wait for a man, of ...

It's also not very culturally appropriate: why can't they have Russia-specific yidams? If Horus can be repurposed as an Afro-Tibetan yidam, surely there must be Russian equivalents. Bear-headed dakinis? Chenrezig holding a hammer and a sickle seated on a red star? Guru yoga of Rasputin in union wit...

Re: Nechung Kuten Recognizes Yeye Omileye

What got me in her post which is now taken down was she equivocated any criticism of her recognition as a Buddha as being a result of underlying white supremacy. As if there isn't a plentitude of genuine reasons not remotely related to racism why her claim to being the first female Buddha in modern...

Then, in this case, by analogy, the positive karma acquired by rejoicing in another one's meritorious deeds wouldn't result in vipaka similar to that of the doer?

Re: Collective karma

Karma is intentional action. Only beings have intention, not groups, hence there is no such thing as collective karma. Any group can agree a shared objective, state the shared intention to attain it, and together conduct the actions in order to do so. For example, a jury can share the intention to ...

Here's a philosophical treatment of the question: https://www.unm.edu/~rhayes/Lecture10.pdf :reading: Kim Thanks for the link. I guess the line between karma-vipaka and what appears to be direct, natural causation can be quite blurry at times. The examples of collective karma that Lati Rinpoche bri...

Collective karma

A while ago, I found this video of Ven. Master Chin Kung asserting that the wealth of the modern-day Islamic nations is the karmic result of the Islamic practice of Zakat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmIvh1n3oG4&pbjreload=10 Personally, I am not convinced that this is the case, primarily because...

Re: Nechung Kuten Recognizes Yeye Omileye

Then why did the Nechung Kuten recognize this woman, Yeye Omileye as the Mamaki Emanation ? Do you think she hypnotized him ? (She is also a hypnotist) I remember Nebesky-Wojkowitz mentioning at some point in his famous book that sometimes oracles get bribed to provide a certain desired answer or t...
