Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

Another update: To the Shambhala Community, In a state of complete heartbreak, I write to you, humble, embarrassed, and thoroughly apologetic for disappointing you. I feel a tremendous amount of sorrow for the pain, confusion, and anger that our sangha is experiencing. I accept accountability for th...

Re: Dzogchen materials not requiring DI?

I would use the GY book to prepare, and then just be present during the DI. To the degree that worrying about visualization and recitation decreases your ability to be present, dial it back and do what you can. That is of course just my experience and may be 'wrong" on some level. Thanks. There are...

Re: Dzogchen materials not requiring DI?

You can buy the Guru Yoga book, they allow anyone who plans on receiving DI to purchase that book. Definitely recommend reading it before the WWT. Likely smartest to get the PDF version so you can get it in time.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Thank you. If I haven't been doing so, how do I repair that? Also, can I ask where you heard this from? It is better safe than sorry of course, but I asked one practitioner who used to help prep people for the empowerments, and she said there was no samaya. I am just confused at the discrepancy. Ri...

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

FWIW, back in the seventies in one of the tapes l listened to of CTR teaching his students, Trungpa admonishes them to give up any ideas of floating off to Mother India to study at the feet of so-called gurus. He made out that so-called teachers spruiking spirituality were all a bunch of sleazebags...

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

From how it was explained to me, apparently some years back Osel Mukpo was frustrated at how lots of older Trungpa students would have several teachers and would come to the Scorpion Seal Garchens but then end up doing their own thing or not engaging with his teachings enough. It then seems like he ...

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

That was one of the biggest reasons I stopped going further in the Shambhala path years ago. It's strange because they paint it as a normal thing that every teacher would ask for, but I've never really seen any other guru demand that they have one and only one guru.

All this news has had me very discouraged and deeply saddened. Shambhala was where I started my path. I still go to the local center every now and then and have tons of friends at all different levels of involvement in Shambhala. Hell, the last few months I'd been contemplating the idea of doing som...

Re: Karmic consequences of suicide in the tibetan tradition

Where does assisted suicide fall into this discussion? Say you're a long term practitioner who comes down with a serious disease that makes abiding in the body incredibly painful. It would seem to me that if you chose to take your life while calm and in a clear meditative state would produce much mo...

According to Tulku Namgyal Dawa Rinpoche's facebook, H.H Dudjom Sangye Pema Shepa Rinpoche (the Tibetan yangsi) will be presiding over the cremation ceremonies at Orgyen Cho Dzong. I'm not sure if he's ever visited the United States before, but in any case this is incredibly auspicious. He has been...

Try asking Yeshe Melong: https://www.tersar.org/yeshe-melong/ I know that when I've done practices with Tulku Namgyal Dawa Rinpoche (Dudjom Rinpoche's grandson), he usually uses an iPad with his practice texts on there, which he is almost definitely getting from Yeshe Melong. So it may be a possibil...

I was lucky to have had several encounters when I was living in NYC with His Holiness. Extremely kind and generous, with an unbelievable presence. He gave me my bodhisattva vows and the lung for the ngondro, which I'm still working on two years later. Tremendous loss for the dharma, but I am sure th...

one would also be forbidden from reading Malcolm's translations if this were the case. Does "Buddhahood in this Life" contain thogal sections that one should not read unless they have received those teachings? This would be good to know beforehand. I haven't bought the book yet so I have no idea if...

Re: Have you changed Buddhist schools since joining DW?

Started off with one foot in Tibetan Buddhism and one foot in Zen. Met Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, and ever since I focus entirely on teachers of Dzogchen, with Namkhai Norbu at the foundation of it all. I still appreciate a lot of the Zen teachings, and I was actually just re-reading Dogen's Ge...
