In which case, it is not killing. Just as the tshog chang in a ganachakra is not alcohol.

Re: Practice advice please

I've been taught that, the less power and realization one has a s a practitioner, the more important astrology is in terms of when one starts and ends practices such as retreats, drubchens, etc. In other words, the more realized one is, the less astrology is an influence. In Vajrayana, there are pra...

Re: gektor colors and ornaments

Looking at the video, Lama Tharchin's gektor is one of numerous variations (that I have seen) on this general idea. If one doesn't know how to make a specific torma, one can always use a cookie or small cake or even just a small plate or bowl of rice. It is the visualization that is most important. ...

Re: gektor colors and ornaments

Different terma cycles have different shaped and ornamented gektors. So you should use the one from the terma cycle you are practicing (unless your Teacher has a specific style and always uses that one style).

IME. this is the kind of thing that needs to be learned from your Teacher directly.

Re: Age of Disease, Famine and War

IME, often, people who are on the verge of death don't actually see or really acknowledge that. They may know it intellectually, but still some part of us thinks it's not gonna happen to us. Personally, I think the same thing is true with this degenerate age/Kali Yuga. We know we're in it but yet we...

Re: Ability to Control the Weather

Apropos of this thread, Khandro Kunzang Dechen Chodron published a translation of the rain-making sadhana from the activity section of the Dudjom Tersar Khandro Thugthig (or was it Throma?). It is available from Saraswati Bhawan Publications for a nominal fee. So anyone interested could get a good i...

Pegyal Lingpa's Seven-line Prayer Sadhana

I am looking for a digital version of Pegyal Lingpa's Seven-line Prayer sadhana. I received the lung from Gochen Tulku Sang-ngak Rinpoche. My regular email address [email protected] if you'd be willing to share it with me.

Thanks

Re: Need help to identify a Nyingmapa hat

It's called a Rigdzin Shamu and it is worn during certain ceremonies or certain parts of ceremonies to confer majesty and glory on the practitioner.

Meant to say "Root Guru." I have double vision due to myasthenia gravis. So I make many typos. Sorry.

Re: Is transmission needed to recite the Immaculate Confession Tantra?

Long confessions mainly just list one's possible infractions. At the end, the actual purification is accomplished by Vajrasattva. So just do Vajrasattva while enumerating your own downfalls and faults. There's nothing superior to Vajrasattva when doing purification, especially remembering/recognizin...

Re: Prayers for my father

Consider having some version of Vajra Nakhi/Dorje Dermo said. This Dorje Dermo (an activity Dakini) is specific for problems affecting one's family and problems between family members. There is the dharani in the Compendium of Dharanis (gZung 'Dus) as well as sadhanas by various famous Gurus. It wil...

Re: Is transmission needed to recite the Immaculate Confession Tantra?

Yes, you need lung. However, if you have strong faith in this shakpa, you can begin without lung as long as you make the strong intention that you will get the lung as soon as possible.

Re: Cockroaches

Back in NYC in 1970-74, my Teachers were in the habit of leaving out lots of food offerings. Needless to say, we developed a huge roach problem. However, They wouldn't even consider exterminating them. Since Their apartment was also our center, we all became very intimately connected with roaches. D...

Re: Incense burners

When I was doing pilgrimage in Sikkim several years ago, our guide was a Lama Jigdam, a close friend of my Teacher Lama Dawa Chodrak. We offered Riwo Sangchod every day. Sometimes there was no sang-bum (sang burning pot) where we were visiting. So we would have to look around to find some suitable v...

Re: Is it okay to re-offer candles weve had to put out?

Oh dear, I didn't mean to cause confusion. I was just thinking that every day I light a 15-hour votive candle in a glass candle holder. Recently I started to buy ones made in Vietnam. About 5% of the time, the candle goes out some time during the night. So the next morning I relight the candle in or...

Re: Is it okay to re-offer candles weve had to put out?

Of course, if we have to put a candle or lamp out that we have offered, then we do what we need to do. But then we can't offer it again. ABO. Also, I think sometimes it's easy to forget that the candles and lamps on our altars are offerings and not decorations for our enjoyment. Just saying. Peace o...
