Re: signs and provocations comprendium

Javier, Signs can be tricky. They may not mean what one thinks they mean. They also may not be coming from there white side. That's why it's best to rely on one's Guru. As a corollary of that, it is essential to have a living Guru until one has unified one's own mind and the Guru's wisdom mind. I wo...

Re: signs and provocations comprendium

No such compendium that I know of. There are texts that describe meanings of dreams. There are also texts which describe divination results. There are also signs described in many sadhana texts, but these tend to be specific to the associated sadhana. The third-best place to find out what a sign mea...

Re: How to accumulate many tsoks alone

You set out a regular tshog with it's offerings. Not just rice. Fruit, flower, candles, cookies, cakes, incense, what have you. You go through the sadhana you are doing till you come to the tshog. After the dralwa/liberation, you say whatever long tshog prayer you usually say. Then you say a short t...

They are from a Chinese Bodhisatva ordination ceremony where cones of incense are burned on the skin of the head, thus leaving life-time scars. It has to do with taking on the suffering of all sentient beings.

Both spelled in Tibetan exactly the same. It's only a difference in pronunciation, not meaning or significance.

Re: Ngondro required for Chod?

Completion of ngondro is not required for receiving chod empowerment. (FYI, there is no chod empowerment in Longchen Nyingthig, although some Teachers will give a different empowerment to "open the sky door.") Ask your Teacher about practice.

Re: Practice advice please

The Buddhadharma in general and Vajrayana in particular, including samaya, are not man-made. They are a revelation from the Dharmakaya. If one meditates, one can directly experience this. If one simply runs their discursive mind, one will never realize this.

Re: Chod Damaru tail

Because I was one of my Teacher's shabjis (close attendants), I was able to find a hair from my Teacher's wife which for me qualifies as a Dakini's hair. That was five decades ago. More recently I was able to find a hair from Chatral Rinpoche's Sangyum (Sangyum Kamala) after She stayed with us which...

To expand on Dharmaswede's post, can be strip of tiger on one side and leopard on the other, an iron ring above the conch disc, and the Dakini hair can mean hair from a prostitute. Or some say, hair from a prostitute on one side and hair from a Dakini on the other. Have also heard hair from a Dakini...

"Is there an indian source of it? I've only read this in Gelugpa teachings and have seen only very few malas of teachers of all schools that had the 3 colors at the main-bead." Re: 105 Bead Mala?

Never heard of a 105 bead mala in Tibetan Buddhism. 108 is the usual number. However, my original Nyingma Teachers said to use 111. As for spacers, those Teachers said one can use a maximum of four sets of three beads. My Dudjom Tersar Teacher said a maximum of three sets of three beads.

Speech is very, very important. It's how most of us make the most negative karma. Lama Dawa Chodrak said, if one commits the four negative actions of speech, one will not gain the accomplishment the mantra.

Also try to receive the lung/oral transmission for Her dok-pa (reversal) practice. This is widely disseminated through all four schools. It is very, very effective. Further, Just pray to Her in your own words and from your heart. We don't always need to recite someone else's prayers. Good luck & bes...

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?

The mantra is for people who have abandoned the Dharma in the past, have seen the error their ways, who regret, and want a method to purify the negative karma.
