Re: 105 Bead Mala?

"Is there an indian source of it? I've only read this in Gelugpa teachings and have seen only very few malas of teachers of all schools that had the 3 colors at the main-bead." I remember many, many years ago my Teacher giving us a lung for a short text on malas. I believe it was by Naropa, but it's...

Re: 105 Bead Mala?

Never heard of a 105 bead mala in Tibetan Buddhism. 108 is the usual number. However, my original Nyingma Teachers said to use 111. As for spacers, those Teachers said one can use a maximum of four sets of three beads. My Dudjom Tersar Teacher said a maximum of three sets of three beads.

I'd go with Amitayus given the situation.

Sorry, I don't know of any books. This is something one learns during their apprenticeship to their Teacher. At least that's how I learned this.

Re: Time for new friends?

Speech is very, very important. It's how most of us make the most negative karma. Lama Dawa Chodrak said, if one commits the four negative actions of speech, one will not gain the accomplishment the mantra.

Also try to receive the lung/oral transmission for Her dok-pa (reversal) practice. This is widely disseminated through all four schools. It is very, very effective. Further, Just pray to Her in your own words and from your heart. We don't always need to recite someone else's prayers. Good luck & bes...

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?

The mantra is for people who have abandoned the Dharma in the past, have seen the error their ways, who regret, and want a method to purify the negative karma.

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?

Fifteen years or so ago, I tried writing the story of my Dharma life. I developed anxiety disorder. Ha!

Also, I'd have to say things about other people who are still alive. So it's not gonna happen.

Gotta go do Protectors.

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?

You're welcome Lhakpa. I know something about leaving the Dharma since I left it twice. Once after six years and once again after 19 years. Both times I left it because of lack of true, sincere, deep renunciation of samsara and problems with faith in the same Teacher Who was pushing me and my family...

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?

Abandoning the Dharma means to leave the Dharma and stop practicing and believing in it as a refuge. Although Vajrasattva purifies all negative karma, the following mantra is specific for purifying the negative karma of having left the Dharma. Sarvavid Vairochana Mantra OM NA-MO BHA-GA-WA-TE SAR-WA ...

Re: gektor colors and ornaments

In all the Nyingma traditions I am familiar with, it is not "left outside: but thrown outside in an overhand manner. When carrying it out, keep it down low. Before it is offered, be sure it is not on your altar where it may be prostrated to. It should be kept down low if possible. There's a way of m...

Re: How can I purify second hand dharma objects?

Yes, we are all samaya-breakers every day. But, if we recognize our mistake and purify it, no problem. Here were are referring to someone who has broken samaya and who has no intention of purifying it. This is something quite different.

If it was from a known samaya-breaker, I'd also just get rid of it.

Re: How can I purify second hand dharma objects?

You can purify second-hand objects (Dharma and other) by drib-sang, sang practice for removing drib/obscuration. In the Dudjom Tersar, there is a drib-sang prayer. Quite useful for removing all sorts of drib. If there is suspected broken samaya, then I would use nol-sang. This practice is for that k...

Re: Qualifications for Wrathful Activity

If Hitler was possessed by some very powerful entity, not so easy to stop him. Same with Mussolini, Stalin, Pol Pot. Same with Trump. It would take even greater power. Let's not kid ourselves, most of us do not have that kind of power. We're talking complete experience of oneself as the Deity, not j...

Re: Mandala offering substance for Ngondro

Yeah, I'm not sure I understand this question and where it's coming from. Himalayan monks and nuns offer the mandala during ngondro with rice, other grains, and gems without any problem. I've never heard this as a problem before. Can you please explain where you're coming from a little more fully?

"but lama pema, why is then that one can use a cookie or a muffin or a banana, etc., but can't make a little bit different doug form of gektor? i really wonder." Excellent question. When we use a cookie or a muffin, it's an expedient means. However, when we are actually making torma, then we need to...

Re: Prophecy of Padmasambhava in the Nirvana Sutra

The fact that tshog chang is amrit and no longer chang/alcohol is the reason why layperson's holding the five vows can drink the tshog chang without breaking their vow. I was taught this by a Khenchen, Konchog Gyamtsho.
