Prayers for dogs in Yulin festival
I would like to send a request for prayers for those dogs tortured at the Yulin festival in China. May there be compassion and relief of suffering both for the dogs and those that are involved in the killing. May those involved grow in compassion so that they see what they're doing is wrong.

Re: Missing Cat
It's become pretty clear that our cat is probably not coming back. He has likely passed away and probably under very unpleasant circumstances, which is painful to think about. I ask for anyone to send prayers that he may be swiftly born in Sukhavati (his name is George), so that he may grow.

Dedication for those stuck in bad conditions
It's become clear to me that I planted seeds in past lives (and in the present one) that were very unwholesome and I am experiencing a lot of mental anguish. I'm afraid to say but sometimes I think: how can I endure this? So may prayers be dedicated to those who, simply through ignorance or even con...

agreed. Some people have completely changed their lives with Guan Yin Citta. For some people with schizophrenia, etc. there is no other cure.

Re: Trauma and the public mind
(Ok, please note this is a slightly graphic post. I hope that it falls withing the rules) I think it depends on the trauma. For instance, I survived a molestation when I was 14 months old and it has affected the rest of my life. I don't dwell on it, but it has had a permanent effect. It has affected...

Re: How to "make amends" to a Bodhisattva or Buddha?
I think it should be noted that if you are sick, it is important to keep yourself very clean and to stay away from the 5 pungent spices. The reason for this is that it is easier for the dieties, Kwan Yin, etc. to come and help when your energy is clean. Apparently, this is because it is easier for t...

Dedicating Merit
Is dedicating merit something that can only be done after Buddhist practice or can it be carried over to transformational practices as well, such as practices of Hooponopono or self-love practices?

Re: Travelling to heavens and pure realms
This is not easy to write and brings up some difficult emotions. I'm writing to share my experience so that it might help someone if they are considering attempting to spiritually travel. Several years ago, I had a similar idea and asked and prayed to spiritually travel to higher realms; Sukahvati, ...

Re: Preparing for death
Lama Zopa Rinpoche's new book How to Enjoy Death provides a detailed phowa practice that he says is ok to practice even if you haven't received transmission or empowerment. I was pretty happy to find that. I highly recommend the book.

Re: "Mercy" killing of a dying animal - moral doubts
Since I began studying Buddhism, I have generally opposed euthanasia. When our cat was getting older this last year (she was about 20) I talked to my mom several times about euthanasia and how my preference was for her to be allowed to die naturally. I wanted her to be able to finish the karma she w...

Re: It's a great day!
I would probably say: one day you will be able to see that life and death are connected. They aren't separate. You can't have one without the other. Without death, we wouldn't have as much appreciation of life.. Life has a purpose and death has a purpose. but neither is easy to understand. we each h...

Phowa with psychological disorder
I have been given instructions to do phowa for myself from a qualified lama. However, I have had a past history of psychosis (3 episodes, each lasting a day long ,of scattered, uncontrollable thoughts). Is it safe for me to pursue phowa practice considering this psychological disorder? Can I still d...

Re: Remembering one dharma talk I heard
Good post. Thanks for passing on this teaching. As I consider impermanence more deeply, I have found myself waking up the last few mornings with the thought of "I don't know". I don't know the best way to help other living beings. I don't know what the best course of action for the day is going to b...

Virgo, Thank you as well for your suggestion. It is much appreciated. I have a Tibetan Buddhist teacher and have received empowerments from him, so I'm in a good place from that standpoint.

Thank you for all the thoughtful responses. Now I have the kind of information I need to make more informed decisions. Thanks fortyeightvows for the chanting box, and sutra paper. I have checked out the Amida Society website, but I don't see an English site, I think it's in Chinese. Javier.espinoza....
