It's just like how Avalokiteshvara was able to give the Heart Sutra bc Buddha entered into contemplation and bc Sariputra had that interest. Blessings arise this way in Vajrayana.

Re: Dr. Sanderson: Phowa etc. are directly from Saivism
In the Chinese community I see Lamas teaching everything from the point of view of lower tantra. Tsok are vegetarian. And monks and nuns attend. The sutra influence is very strong. As is the whole super polite chinese culture. These are like upper castes. The words bliss of union are used but not ex...

Re: Beginner's Vajrayana Practice - next step
Some time ago (nearly 10yrs) a friend advised me that the following practice would be a good starting point: Three prostrations while saying the refuge prayer, Chanting one mala of OM MANI PEMI HUNG, Finish with around 5min. Sitting meditation. Do this 3-5 times a day. I am just wondering what this...

Re: Why do only very few practitioners attain rainbow body?
I believe that the points that I was making were entirely in keeping with the traditional Nyingma approach to Dzogchen. How would you know? Not all Nyingma teachers teach Dzogchen …. That's what I just said. …. or have a deep understanding of Dzogchen, much less a deep practice of Dzogchen . (forma...

Re: Why do only very few practitioners attain rainbow body?
This poor success rate for Westerners (0.000%) seems very disconcerting and leads to a lot of questions. I disagree that the rainbow body phenomena is the the only validation to the mastery of Dzogchen realization, or any style/level of enlightenment. furthermore, people making progress on the Path...

No. They did not. They completely misunderstood the teachings. They might have seen bindus but they did not understand the part about not conceptualizing them and not concretizing or universalizing them. Do you know them personally, or are you basing your opinion merely off of their books? Also, do...

She's going to go into the bardo thinking she's supposed to see "essence... nothing, not nothing" When she sees the deities, she'll freak out and be in hell. I don't think so. She understood what chos nyid mngon gsum was well enough, this alone is enough to prevent rebirth in lower realms forever. ...

The woman has died. You cant criticize someone just because they've died. You got that backwards. You can't venerate someone just because they died. Everyone dies. The problem is the litter preceding the wake. Here is one bit from their books: "Thogal visions are always the same for everyone." This...

Re: Complete Togal Instruction in Unrestricted New Book
I pray she finds the nirmanakaya realm. Their book will not instruct anyone to attain liberation. It's sad that a life was spent pursuing this and simply failed. It makes me really really sad to see this happen. Never let yourself fall away from the grace of the guru. Never assume oneself is free fr...

Re: Is Western Buddhism an (ethnic) identity-based Buddhism?
Is Western Buddhism an (ethnic) identity-based Buddhism? I think it is, yeah. Judging by the relics thread, the OP exclaimed about "the West" a lot. Seems "the West" expects Buddhism to 1) not be a religion, 2) to be rational, and 3) not violate scientific principles. I know many in "the West," and...

Shariraṃ, relics, are the small pellet—like secretions found in the ashes of Buddhist saints when they are cremated. They look like pearls. These are but one kind. There have been many Kagyu masters whose eyes, tongue and heart fused in cremation. Some manifested bija on their teeth. Some manifeste...
