Re: Views on Dharma clothes

Man, Namdrol....you really did pick the goofiest picture you could find of Inji's in robes!

That picture just makes me cringe....a perfect example of why the whole issue should even be raised in the first place.

David, that article had me rolling on the ground...too funny, man.
Now we all know the secret--no matter what you wear, folks, it had better be "collar up."

Re: Views on Dharma clothes

Calling these things dharma clothes is a bit of a stretch. These things are Tibetan custom. In reality, there are only two kinds of clothes that can be called Dharma" clothes i.e. white clothes for lay people, and dyed robes for monks. To this one might add blue shirts for Vajrayāna practition...

Re: Views on Dharma clothes

Are you talking about robes? In my experience, every Dharma Center with Tibetan roots has a different position on this issue. Some Nyingma centers practically require all participants to wear them during some rituals. Some only allow Lamas, monks, and nuns, to wear them. Some are more flexible. In m...

Kirt-
I'd call KTD directly if you have an interest in attending. I'd bet you that members would be notified, but I don't think "tickets" would be on sale anywhere--it's not really a "public address" or conference or anything like that.

Re: Encyclopedia of Bodhisattvas, Dharmapalas, Yidams, etc?

There was a book published by an FWBO writer, Vessantara, maybe, that dealt with this--I recall reading it years ago, and it was pretty good, explaining many of the most common deities, etc. though there were a few minor misunderstandings. It didn't have everything, though....there are so many diffe...

Re: Separating Body and Mind

Somewhat of a loaded question, but the answer is that Phowa is the essence, the quintessence really, of Chod, which is really Mahamudra practice.

Re: Tsalung Trulkor and Yantra Yoga

I think you're talking about Kalu Rinpoche's "Nangpai Naljor," or "Buddhist Yoga." This is something other than what I'm talking about....though I'm positive the Shangpa transmissions influenced the Buddhist Yoga he taught publically.

Hot and Cool Drinks?

I've noticed that many Tibetan Lamas, and even layfolk, steer clear of many cold drinks, preferring warm or hot beverages. In fact, I've been told that cold beverages cannot be tolerated by some folks.

What is the reasoning behind this, according to Tibetan medicine?

Greg, and all- One of the methods many con-men use is to bolster their image, whether by lifting material from trusted sources, or by soliciting positive feedback from others. I am not so sure that Namdrol and Dan Martin's comments should be seen as endorsements of the blogger, but more as comments ...

Re: Saraha, Moksaragupta and Dzogchen

The Togdens I know of, those in Himachal Pradesh, are Drukpa Kagyu, and they practice Chakrasamvara and Vajrayogini, and the associated completion stages, which include TsaLung practices of course. They do wear cotton shawls, so I suppose you could call them Repas, I'm not sure if there's a traditio...
