Re: reinvigorating practice

Hello everyone, and thank you for your input. I am not sure how to go about implementing all of the suggestions, but will give them a try as I take my break and when I begin meditating again. You are right, Greg, about hoping Yana doesn't come before I get back on track! I have a feeling that I am t...

Re: reinvigorating practice

Hi Anjali, thanks for the suggestions and insight into addressing this issue. I will try to get a copy of the book. Is it a fairly easy read? That is what I need these days!
:thanks:

Re: reinvigorgating practice

I am a Kagyu practitioner (Karma and Shangpa). My teacher told me not to rush back to practicing, but the longer I am away from it, the more I feel reluctance to begin again, even though there is suffering. I am hoping my reading will help spur me on, but I feel the need for more motivation. Thank y...

reinvigorgating practice

I have been meditating almost daily for almost five years. I found myself having resistance to sitting and when I discussed this with my teacher, she suggested I take a break to assess what meditation brings to my life and to see what works for me. She said it was normal to need to take a break and ...

Re: How smart do you have to be to get it?

I don't consider myself dumb by any means, but I do find it discouraging when fellow forum members discuss things that are way over my head. Makes me feel as if I will never progress. (I have been practicing for almost five years now.)

Re: tiredness

I live on the South Coast of Oregon, where there are no nearby Buddhist centers. I am a member of Kagyu Sukha Choling in Ashland, and travel there as often as possible, now with the bad weather I will probably wait until Spring for a visit. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive from here.

Re: Anxiety meds

I think you should proceed with caution and take the advice of folks on this thread with a grain of salt, including mine. If you need anxiety meds, use them. Meditation can help as well. But since your physician has prescribed the meds for a reason, I believe you should follow his guidance, not the ...

I am not denying the accuracy of your comments, per se, just wanting to know your sources. You still haven't given specific sources for your information.

Re: Shine: One objet or many?

My teachers teach us to use a variety of objects, to have them in our so-called "tool box" to call upon when our meditation gets stagnant or needs an adjustment. But, I don't use a different object every day. I try to stick with what seems to work best and focus on that. The objects can range from s...

Re: Retreat ideas

Each month I do a day long solo retreat. I stay at home, practice a series of different meditations, interspersed with reading something on Buddhism and doing some creative activity. About midway I be sure to take a break and eat something. This gives me a sense of being immersed in my practice and ...

I have been meditating for four years now and still have trouble with discursive thinking. I just keep practicing and hope the rushing thoughts will eventually calm down. Some days are better than others, but from what I understand the goal isn't to have no thoughts anyhow.

Re: Poll on Frequency of Practice

I practice about 25 minutes of sitting meditation a day, unless I do a deity practice, such as Green Tara or Chenrezig. I find that 25 minutes of calm abiding or vipashyana is long enough, in that I get really fidgety and worried about when the timer is going to go off. Any ideas on how to feel more...
