Re: CBD oil
It can stabilize brain activity, it especially affects the GABA pathways, which cause mild sedation, has anti-seizure properties, and anti-anxiety effects. This is why CBD is so effective with seizure disorders. In people without seizures, it can act as a calming agent. It also has effects on our bo...

Re: How to achieve a place of inner peace without becoming ordained?
Hi Imnels. Through morality, we achieve a state of non-regret, and our mind becomes easeful. This is an important basis for śamatha meditation. Through śamatha we further stabilize the mind (and yes it is possible to practice as a layperson). Based on śamatha, we can develop vipaśyanā which can upr...

Re: boring questions about losing weight
So I need to lose probably about 30 pounds. Most people's health would not be effected by the amount of extra weight I have, but with me it puts me in the danger zone for metabolic syndrome as I age. I turned 42 today, it's getting very difficult to eat so little, my metabolism has significantly sl...

Re: Scientists find primitive organisms possess cognition
Worth recalling that the very simplest of organisms are worlds more complex than anything in the inorganic realm. The fundamental attribute of any organism is to seek homeostasis - which nothing in inorganic nature does. I believe that anything living is, on that grounds, ontologically distinct fro...

Re: Scientists find primitive organisms possess cognition
"Awarity" I like that. My take is that stuff like this says more about our own concept of our consciousness than it does about the activity of these simple organisms. What I mean by that is we generally take ourselves as the standard and then measure other iterations of consciousness against us. So...

Re: Scientists find primitive organisms possess cognition
For example, suppose a tree sends out roots in different directions. The ones which make contact with water will flourish and grow, while the ones that do not contact water will wither and disappear. So, if you dig up the tree a few years later, and look at the roots, it will appear that the roots ...

Re: Scientists find primitive organisms possess cognition
All, or nearly all living things possess some level of "awarity", which, I theorize is the basis for the development of higher levels of cognition and intelligence, or at least, for the physiological apparatus of the brain to occur, with which some kind of consciousness can specifically interact. T...

Scientists find primitive organisms possess cognition
A very interesting article, studies were done on simple organisms like slime molds, and it has been more or less proven that 'primitive organisms' possess cognition, and can transfer memory, behaviors, etc simply through cell fusion(growing new cells, or fusing two separate cells together etc). They...

I wanted something real, you stole it all I lost it all, love is perverse, it's meaningless it's all meaningless, I don't care, I don't care I dream, I dream of better days, and let me say It's always been this way; they come; suck you in then leave you bleeding, it's mindless, spineless I'm fine, I...

Re: Emptiness
I was once told, it's something you just 'have to get'... It's like a sudden understanding, in a sudden moment of time you will simply see, and experience it, and then your mind will instantly try to conceptualize it, and seek it out, and thus begins the path. read as much about it as you want, you ...

Re: Why do Buddhas never joke?
I honestly don't think there's a much better antidote for sadness, or being overly serious than to just laugh.
It might just be my impression of enlightened beings, but I tend to view them as typically joyful, compassionate, and quick to joke, and laugh as to ease the suffering of others.

To be fair there are quite a few extremist liberals out there. It's what made me start calling myself a socialist/independent.

Isn't that a question for your teacher? even if someone here could guide you, you didn't really give enough information about your practice for anyone to make any suggestions. But seeing as this is a Mahayana forum, you could always practice Bodhisattva training. The perfection of ethics, co...

Re: Sarlo's Guru Rating Service
Don't take it too seriously. There is a lot of work behind it, I am sure. The sheer number of the gurus is stunning. Hundreds of them, whom I have never heard of, or maybe even close to one thousand. There is a message in their number, and in the attitude and treatment of them. You could never do t...

Re: TRUCK FUMP
Something not as much talked about in the "Russian Meddling" in our elections, is how they did it. The end result is much scarier than swaying an election. The real story is the use of advanced artificial intelligence to commit state-sponsored information warfare, and if you think Russia are the onl...

Probably one of my favorite electro-industrial songs(and bands) ever, it's too bad that youtube doesn't have support for hi-fidelity music, or subwoofer support. Music that makes the house go boom and rumble <3
