Re: 3 year retreat vs Daily life practice

I am talking kind of in general but basing it on what the original poster wrote and asked in the thread title and their early comments. I was suggesting they monitor their reasoning and really that they might consider practicing more in regular circumstances than anything too sudden, abrasive, or h...

Re: 3 year retreat vs Daily life practice

I mean no offense at all by this, and it may sound bad, but I suggest you don't do this, or at least just not yet. Someone here had typed that they had heard reports of this process being quite heavy as an undertaking, and though that is nothing to fear, I think more important than all these things...

Re: 3 year retreat vs Daily life practice

"So it is more about making deep foundation for the practitioner?" IMO, yes. It's about creating a firm foundation so that you can practice effectively the entire rest of your life. If you think you could Realize if only you could do a three-year retreat, that probably isn't going to happen. It cou...

Re: 3 year retreat vs Daily life practice

FYI, a third option has been emerging here in the U.S.-- don't know about other places -- of doing three-year retreat in your own home. Gochen Tulku Sang-ngag in Santa Fe, NM has allowed a couple/several of His Students to do this. At least one has been made a Lama at the end of three years. She is...

Re: Dilgo Khyentse on mushrooms

I heard a high lama once said that "LSD is not evil." But here comes the same debate again whether it is really beneficial or not. Well lsd is synthetic/artificial; whereas mushrooms are not. So I personally would not take the former. Never been fan of the natural good, synthetic bad dichotomy. Tha...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Does one need to attend a sms course to engage in deep sms base practice (long retreat) or is it good enough to have the material, transmission and lthe contact of antrainer to clear out doubts?

Re: who's ngondro is it anyway

You don't think that ngondro is a practice developed and related through the Tibetan culture? Westerners are not naturally disposed to this kind of practice and resistance seems quite natural to them. I like what Malcolm said: Practicing Dharma is better. What about it exactly would westerners have...

Refuge and bodhichitta, short thun in the mornings and evenings. The three anniversary DIs. White A. Song of Vajra. Rushens, semdzins, lojongs. Dream practice... All I can manage at the moment. Re: Can I reject direct introduction?

Is samaya from DI practice of Guruyoga? Samaya comes with any empowerment. If someone does not want to receive a commitment, they should not attend teachings where commitments are incumbent. My response is was prompted by a misconception that some people have that they can attend an empowerment or ...

There are karmic dreams and dreams of clarity. This is according to Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche.Dreams of clarity have importance. They are still experiences that come and go.
