Re: Ch'an understanding of Suffering

Can anyone clarify the Ch'an understanding of Suffering, with the emphasis that different beings have different needs? First of all we may wish to deal with the issue "the Chan understanding", as if there was a singular position that Chan took on this (or any other) matter. Basically we could say s...

Buddha the first cause of the universe?

" The Buddha did not make any attempt to validate the existence of the first cause or the Cause of the causes. In the early Buddhism there was no mention of any Absolute God akin to Brahman of the Upanishads. The followers of Mahayana deviated from this early stand of the Buddhists and declared that...

Nagarjuna and Pure Land

Hello all,

I was wondering what the text of Nagarjuna is called where he calls the Pure Land path the "easy path"

Also does this text contain the real words of Nagarjuna or did someone else write them and attributed them to him?

Re: No Proofs of Sucessful Rebirths?&Are Pure Land sutras real?

Even if there are Pureland Near Death experiences it can't be known for sure if a Pure Land truly does exist. Christians have NDEs of seeing Jesus and St Peter, Tibetan Buddhists see Guan Yin and millions of bodhisattvas. You will never hear about a Christian seeing Guan Yin or a Tibetan Buddhist se...

Re: many questions about Rainbow body - help please

so zen and theravada masters have to be reborn until they attain rainbow body in order to be liberated from samsara forever? In that case an Arahat will have to be reborn again? This is a big contradiction between early buddhism and tibetan buddhism.

Re: many questions about Rainbow body - help please

hi, I don't understand if this is the highest attainment why don't we see highly realized zen masters or theravada masters attain this body when their flesh body dies? I've heard people who attained rainbow bodies are reborn on earth for some reason such as Ayu Khandro? why? In 2004 Khempo Yurmed Ti...

many questions about Rainbow body - help please

hi everyone,

what is the rainbow body? is attaining it the same thing as achieving physical immortality? rainbow bodies live in pure lands or heavens for eternity? why is tibetan buddhism the only buddhist sect that teaches the rainbow body? did this arise out of the bon tradition in tibet?
