According to old school Shin Buddhism, Astus is correct. Some "scholars" these days have different opinions about it though. Haven't really spent much time reading about their ideas.

Depends on your intention. If you're only intention to get the cat is for the mice to get killed then it could be bad karma.edearl wrote:Is there bad karma from having humming bird feeders or bat roosts?cooran wrote:Hello all,

Re: Killing Insects and Buddhism
Since insects are ignorant of morality and we humans are the higher form of life then shouldn't we practice ahimsa towards even household flies and pests despite the problems they create for us ? If they create problems then I have no problem wiping them out. The other day I had mice in my house wh...

Re: Maitreya's Pure Land?
The basic criteria for rebirth in any Pureland is to have faith in that Buddha or Bodhisattva, to vow to be reborn there rather than anywhere else, to perform meritorious deeds, and to dedicate those deeds to rebirth in that Pureland. The meritorious deeds include recitation of sutras and other tea...

Whatever you choose in the end, put all your heart and mind into it. That's the only way you'll get anywhere. I was also like you at one going back and forth with traditions until I discovered the Pure Land path and have been stuck to it ever since.

Re: Is Pure Land beyond Samsara?
I know that my question may sound rather silly, but is any particular initiation necessary to chant "Namo Amitabha"? Or can anyone do it simply by picking it up from a book? Providing of course he lives as a good Buddhist and has full faith in Amitabha. I really like the stories of all the devoted ...

Almost forgot about this thread. Thanks for the replies.
Namdrol, I've read one of your posts suggesting that Amitabha might of been "borrowed" from persian religion. How does this effect your understanding?

Anyway, feel free to consider right and wrong whatever you wish. As was said previously here what I said is how Shinshu is presented in Canada (and there are many teachers not only in Canada, who say the same things) so they are all slandering the Dharma and don't know that Shinshu is Mahayana? Gas...
