Re: Quitting cigarettes
I smoked for 20 years, I managed to quit 6 years ago using combination of methods: 1. Strong motivation - I was about to start Ngondro practice - I was thinking is there a sense to do prostrations to clear your channels but smoke at the same time? 2. One of my Lama said that people who smoke have so...

It's not my job to tell you what's wrong or not in your thinking. I wrote what I believe in previous post. I wish you good luck in your practice and I believe if you continue good practice in few years you will be laughing from your own posts written here now.

Indeed, we really have to understand these stories as patriarchal accounts which obscure women stories, which render them as dangerous, which fundamentally serve male fantasies through the way patriarchal society fetishes women (virginity vs. prostitution; celibacy vs. being sexual active; treacher...

Re: “You Can’t Watch Pornos in the Monastery”: Tibetan Tantra, Imagined Pleasure, and the Virtuality of Desire
These Mahasiddhas probably were single, and didn't do this to betray their partner. I have more of a problem with the betrayal and deceit, than with the actual profession of being a prostitute. When men in committed relationships cross that line it is abhorrent, and sexual misconduct. I think the p...

Re: “You Can’t Watch Pornos in the Monastery”: Tibetan Tantra, Imagined Pleasure, and the Virtuality of Desire
The Buddha did not actively seek out these experiences, he happened upon them and they lead to his renunciation of worldly life. I believe story says he had feeling "something is not quite right" and he asked to be taken outside the palace, so yes he was seeking the truth until he found one. We are...

to educate in spirit of enlightenment is to let people see and choose themselves. Protect "children" from evil of this world by restricting access to whatever is behaving like Siddhartha's father. Without Siddhartha seeing poor, sick, old and dead he will never become Buddha. Except that we are not...

can I just drop a bomb? you know some Mahasiddhas had prostitute consorts or some were prostitutes themselves? and they are described as dakinis taking form of prostitute. Can you just for a second imagine that porn stars may be dakini too or daka for that matter? I'm really wondering is this Cathol...

not sure how suddenly all this turned into crime and pathology is it because of logic porn=evil=other evils this is so wrong ... is the same logic which many homophobs use gay=bible sin=evil=pedophile for Buddha sake, hundreds of millions of people since 1950 watched ponr in this or other form, and ...

Re: “You Can’t Watch Pornos in the Monastery”: Tibetan Tantra, Imagined Pleasure, and the Virtuality of Desire
this whole case is just a little silly, so monk watched porn in gompa, got scolded by Lama, and Khenpo went philosophical because his pride was kicking. that's all really ... Bigger monastic issues: - raping young monks by older, even group rape (Kalu R. confession). - many monasteries in Tibet had ...

I can assure you that 99% of kids in Asia who are taken/given to Buddhist monasteries at age 8 have no idea about their intention to keep monastic vows until their late maturation. Until than they keep trying things, exactly the same way like any other teens and twinks

Who told you to look into someone else sexual or semi-sexual activities, includes monks or nuns? Most of us keep some precepts, right? When we broke one we see no big problem, we'd apology + Vajrasattva etc. but when it comes to monks braking their celibacy suddenly we are all so judgmental and cast...

Re: Ngakpa tradition & magic
I remember Lama Dawa Chhodak Rinpoche explaining in simple language that "those who hold mantra" and those who received hair Troma empowerment are "baby ngakpas" . Ultimately one should complete Maha, Anu, Atiyoga paths and receive 100 special empowerments of Zhitro deities - placing each deity in b...

monastic debate and compete to get the best grade studying Dharma
but their intention is ultimately to be the best Dharma teacher for their students and they don't want anybody to fail either.

Re: Karma accrued during customer service job
I've been working in customer services and sales most of my life and practising Dharma last 22 years, my observation is I'm trying to be genuine, helpful, present business fairly and leave choice to customer (not push too strong). Avoiding harsh words and gossip (as per 10 Non-Virtues) which are act...
