Re: Daniel P Brown - Pointing Out Way?

Great, great interview. His point about people not taking their meditation seriously enough - including keeping in mind the goal is total buddhahood, not just more mindfulness - is so important. His reply to someone asking what to do if they have 10 minutes a day to practice was great and sobering....

Re: Daniel P Brown - Pointing Out Way?

I just found this gem of an interview with Daniel Brown from last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0swudgvmBbk When I say "gem," I mean it. I've never heard such a complete and detailed breakdown of the path anywhere. Some may even find it offensive how much detail he goes into about esoteric ...

Re: What do you think about Triratna?

Not much, to be honest. I was involved with them for a few years. The famous "FWBO files" was harsh, but not inaccurate. They have a take on buddhism which is too strongly flavoured by non-Buddhist ideas. And they also have no lineage of enlightened teachers, which kind of makes the whole exercise r...

Re: Being "in the thought"

Kind of a nit-picky question, but how would you explain the difference between being present "in" a thought in contemplation, vs. following a thought habitually? Samsaric mind will do something with the thought, rather than leaving it alone, accidentally confusing itself as a consequence so that it...

Re: Should I stay or should I go?

You're allowed to study any dharma teachings you want. The Buddha taught 84,000 teachings for a reason.

FWIW I moved from Zen to Tibetan teachings for a variety of reasons, including several you've mentioned. Doesn't mean I don't have a huge amount of respect for the Zen/ Ch'an schools.

1) Themselves.
2) Their accountants.
3) Their lawyers.

Re: Giving, reinstating or being taken advantage of ?

In a way I just wanted to pay her out an amount so I could be 'done' with it , and then could focus on practice etc ... You're giving a crazy person money and expecting them to leave you alone? I think your practice should involve getting emotionally healthy with regards to this issue, to be honest...

Re: Giving, reinstating or being taken advantage of ?

Absolutely, I am easy to guilt trip! Always have been :crying: That's something to work on. It's not a good sign to be easy to emotionally manipulate. You need to work on boundaries - it will make you a better person, for yourself and others. This is no doubt compounded in my mind by the fact that ...

Re: Giving, reinstating or being taken advantage of ?

I have spoken to a number of people about this ( mostly non-Buddhist & with 1 Buddhist) , whom think she is emotionally manipulating me , putting all the blame onto me for her actions and spending habits; none of them think I should pay her any money for her decision making, and that it is 'out of ...

Re: Visualisations and Dzogchen

Integrating visualisations and other mental activity are part of enhancement practice. They are 100% legitimate Dzogchen practices. I've come across it in at least ChNNR's practices and practices in the Chokling Tersar - it is no doubt in other practice lineages etc. See this, amongst other texts: h...

My wife and I went through a similar experience about 12 years ago. We had some unintentional codependency going on with each other, and we each had our cycle of this type of thing (me being jealous of her at one point and vice versa). The "cure" so to speak for me was to divorce myself emotionally...

The Buddha's advice can be found here: https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.31.0.nara.html "These four, young householder, should be understood as foes in the guise of friends: (1) he who appropriates a friend's possessions, (2) he who renders lip-service, (3) he who flatters, (4) he who b...

Re: Wrinkles & Aging Skin

Diet is massively important, both to preventing and repairing damage. As for stress, I know some people who are serious meditators who I have no idea how old they are. A lama I know might be anywhere from 30 to late 50s. I am sure this is due to knowing how to deal with stress. He generally just loo...

Re: Wrinkles & Aging Skin

You have to avoid damaging the skin's collagen, keeping it elastic.
  • Most importantly, never smoke
  • Avoid UV exposure
  • Moisturise
  • Make sure you are as hydrated as possible
  • Eat plenty of collagen
  • Minimise stress
