Re: Buddhist karma yoga
If your karma yoga involves helping the Sangha, overseeing or helping withany of the guru's extended projects, affairs, affiliated centers, activities etc then this is said to accrue a great deal of merit. If you don't have a guru or personal teacher, helping a Sangha with your time and energy can ...

Re: Buddhist karma yoga
In my opinion, although it's not explicitly called "karma yoga", pretty much anything discussing the path of the bodhisattva fits the bill very nicely. Seems that the Hindus have made something into an explicit path which is a little more implicit in the bodhisattva teachings. I think the Hindu app...

Buddhist karma yoga
I'm looking for Buddhist instructions on karma yoga, similar to those that are in the Bhagavad Gita. I hear the term a lot, especially in dharma centres, but actual instructions per se are surprisingly difficult to track down. Perhaps the closest thing I've received are enhancement instructions for ...

It's due to the karma & merit of the beings in that universe at that time. No karma & merit, no opportunity will arise to meet a Buddha.

Re: Dmitry Ermakov
- Explain to me please, what do you mean with that Dmitry classifies nam mkha' ar gtad (sky gazing) under tögal and not under trekcho ? I've only heard namkha arted, as an enhancement practice for trekcho, not as a togal practice per se. Although interestingly there is reference to togal anatomy in...

Dimitry has written some great stuff. I have a lot of respect for his work. Interesting that he classifies nam mkha' ar gtad under togal, not trekcho.

I strongly recommend "How to be an Adult: A Handbook on Psychological and Spiritual Integration" and "How to be an Adult in Love" by David Richo.

Dear Mila, There is no such thing as a pure Buddhist, if we were pure we would be Arhats and Buddhas, not Buddhists. So, no use beating up on yourself. Just try to do your best. One step at a time. :good: It is very easy to get hooked up on the notion of 'pure' - it is not a good goal to aim for as...

Re: Is punishment of children required?
Discipline and assertiveness are important but without loving kindness it is just like being in the military. We're not here to fight but to find out what our lives are. Therefore we must be careful, very careful. That is all. Personal experience tells me punishment leads to resentment. Better to r...

Re: Is punishment of children required?
Violence can be very subtle and stem from a passive aggressive constitution. I'd not call that violent, but it can negatively influence up a child's psychology (or anyone else's). It is also why the best way to raise children is to be assertive with them and raise them to also be assertive. That wa...

Re: Is punishment of children required?
Seems 'punishment' is being conflated too readily with violence, which is very strange and probably quite telling. For me, as a parent, discipline and punishment if boundaries are crossed, is essential. It's in the nature of children to test how far they can cross the line and what will happen if th...

Have a Google for Convict Conditioning if you want ideas on bodyweight exercises. It goes from the very easy to the very, very difficult.
And of course, as others have said, there's yoga.

"Asia" refers to a huge number of countries and cuisines.
If you want to eat healthily, but avoid the awful consequences of the SAD, I REALLY recommend the book "Deep Nutrition".

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu
Are there any DC books (or past issues of The Mirror) which talk about karma yoga? Hindu dharma has some great teachings on it, but I'd love some Buddhist instructions, especially from a dzogchen perspective.

Re: Wanting to convert, still have unexplained doubts and fears,So I found this forum!
I think you can only unpick this yourself, to be honest. However one thing that really stands out is that this really seems to be an idea/meme which protects itself from being dropped by having a well structured threat built into it - if you dare disbelieve then you will go to hell. If you maybe loo...

oh, if you connect the dots then the longsal series can be the answer. also, afaik ChNN said once that SOV can be found in sutras, but i don't know exactly where search for it :( Also, I was wondering if SoV is practiced by other lineages. I don't think I've seen it mentioned anywhere else so far. ...

Re: Not been feeling like attending dharma events
Personally, I think the best approach is to follow this loop: Explain experience to teacher Get instructions and clarifications from teacher Go home Implement Gain experience Return to teacher Repeat Getting too involved in a dharma centre is not great in my experience. Also, there's little point in...
