Re: The Big Discussion: Diversity, Inequality, Race, and everything that keeps us from Utopia
That was my attempt at a little humor. There's not a lot of places where Buddhist jokes might even have a chance of eliciting a chuckle. My bad. I was too uptight to get the joke. Well done. Ah, if it didn't get a laugh, it was a bad joke. Thanks, though. I'm here all week. LOL I'm just ...

Re: Trauma and the public mind
Sorry, I've known too many people who have committed suicide or overdosed on drugs, people clearly living through trauma they can't get a grip on, to be comfortable with where this conversation started from or where it's going. So, I'm just going to drop it. I'm out.

Re: Trauma and the public mind
I find the discussion to be mostly a series of rants. Sorry if that wasn't crystal clear. All of us being Buddhists of some stripe, we all accept that Suffering or dukkha is pervasive. The discussion is aimed at the second Noble Truth, the causes & conditions that produce Suffering and the fourth o...

Re: Trauma and the public mind
As I recall the OP did posit a growing trend to blame and identify with trauma as a factor for emotional blockages and problems. All I’m saying is that’s the direction the science is pointing in. So it’s not unjustified. Most people upvoted the idea that this wasn’t a good thing. Nobody presented an...

Re: Trauma and the public mind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB51V3fAAvs&list=PLa4kuhVDFVpN6FJ9tT_8efOYxRSBeYkJV&index=4 I think what I'm saying is that trivializing people's claims to have been traumatized is inappropriate in a counseling or public interpersonal communication. I find the discussion to be mostly a series of ran...

Re: Trauma and the public mind
Due to imagery technologies available to us today, it is now understood by scientists that trauma plays a central role in early childhood development. It's pretty much hard science, guys. Sorry about your luck. If this is your career field and you aren't aware of this I'm not sure what to think, or ...

Re: Black & Buddhist in America - 2018
Speaking as a white person, I'm very suspicious, it's a red flag, when I walk into a Dharma Hall with a significant number of persons, in a racially and ethnically diverse community, and see only white people. My presumption kicks in and I see them all as superficial, make-believe Buddhists, which I...

I have empathy for people that hurt regardless of whether the trauma is real or fake. Fakers will get a taste of tough love however.

Weird random fact - I had a locker in high school next to Dave, of the hot sauce company. :) edit - hmm, wrong Dave. Re: Craving
I have felt some clarity about what is so illusory about craving. Feel free to comment on, add or amend something. There is only now, and when you crave, you become dissatisfied with the now; in that moment you prefer the reality of your idea to your experiential reality, and you suffer fro...

Who else here is a hot sauce fan? My husband and I got into them because of Hot Ones, then the Heatonist site. They're a really easy way to add flavor to food  The biggest discovery for me has been how peppers are like wines, with some dry and crisp like the ghost pepper, and others wa...

Great, good to hear, closure to some extent for you. So where does this leave you? You have a practice, sangha, etc? Thank you . . I'm a student of ChNN . I live in a relatively remote part of the world , so there is a 3-5 person Sangha in my state. I'm hoping to catch up with them soon. My main pr...
