Re: Accepting a guru you haven’t personally met?

:good: I think there's also something else in the mix: you sort of have to discover that somehow or other, despite all of your idiocies and conceits, they have taken personal responsibility for your liberation. It can take a good deal of time to see that, but once that is seen all the other question...

Re: Decreased interest in Tantric practice

I have found my interest in new Tantric practices waning over time. Prior to taking teachings from ChNN I received a lot of initiations, and generally took attending them quite seriously. Since this time I have the reoccurring feeling that I have enough of them, and find it harder to get all ginned...

Re: Great Drikung Phowa

AFAIK,there is no specific empowerment.Just oral transmission accompanied by Amitabha or amitayus empowerment for long-life.So I don’t know how anuyoga samayas would come into place. My teacher never mentioned it though. I asked privately the Amitabha aspect of the transmission is HYT only. Thank yo...

Re: Ringu Tulku talk on The 14 Root Samayas of Vajrayana

this is according to the sarma traditions (kagyu, sakya gelug, and so). would there be a difference with the nyigma? My understanding is the 14 root vows apply to all Inner Tantras in Nyingma and HYT so new school. But Mahayoga, Anuyoga, and Atiyoga have their own vows also which are presented in J...

Great Drikung Phowa

What Vows does the practice of the Great Drikung Phowa entail?

Is it HYT?

It originates from a Padmasambhava Terma so I wondered.

Re: Buddha Mindfulness Methods

I've been practicing Pure Land for approximately 20 years and the best method for me was to count nembutsu on beads: a classic Chinese mala or Japanese Ojuzu. One round is plenty and actually when I began it was rather like agony to finish. Seeing the beads reminds you to do it, and when you have c...

Re: The 'Reality" of the Pure Land and Amida

Hello. I have had a deep interest in Buddhism for a few years now, even posted on here a while ago. To the extent I am able, I am also a huge fan of philosophy and reading ancient knowledge and wisdom. This means I can't help but ask questions about anything that interests me and that includes Pure...

Re: Power places

I've heard about power places in Asia, but I wonder: How can I assess if a place in the West (in nature) is a power place for meditation and practice? Are there formal metrics for doing so? Or informal metrics? Or is the designation of "power place" just a matter of tradition and geography? A lot o...

Re: Getting the MOST out of ngondro

Hey DW community :) I am well into the Dudojom Tersar Ngondro, and it seems to be very good stuff. I'm doing my best to "complete" the ngondro accumulations, but I went a little overboard with prostrations, and I hurt myself. I may not be able to do prostrations, which is kind of disappointing beca...

What's your favorite sutta in particular? Too many good ones; there is the famous Kalama Sutta at AN 3.65 and here are some others: https://dhammawiki.com/index.php/Anguttara_Nikaya And some others not on that list: Anguttara Nikaya 9.35 Gavi Sutta Anguttara Nikaya 9.36 Jhana Sutta Anguttara Nikaya...

“Compassion is Avalokiteśvara,

That's nice I've never read that before.
