Re: Gratitude

Personally, I would recommend finding a teacher with settled Faith. I know Rev George Gatenby a little and trust him. He's in Adelaide. He has a blog. http://blog.georgegatenby.id.au I trained at a Centre for 4 years, it was emotionally intense, not easy at all, working through aspects of Karmic Rea...

Re: Gratitude

Transmission isn't a feature of Japanese Pure Land Buddhism, which I believe doublerepukken follows. Sorry missed this I trained in Jodo Shinshu it was considered transmission at that centre not like an event, but over the course of training. It may be different in other centres, I can only talk ab...

Re: Gratitude

Monlam, Thanks for your reply, the comment you posted by Honen/Shinran really resonated with what I'm feeling. I have been reading a lot about shinjin, and felt that maybe it was my lack of gratitude that was holding me back from receiving it, but as you just demonstrated, it seems like Shinran fel...

Re: Gratitude

True, but we still must make the connection, grasping the hand that Amida extends to us so to speak. This is karma. Completely agree my Nembutsu friend!!! I'm not contradicting myself it just depends on which way you look at a something that is multi-faceted. We always must respect the individual ap...

Re: Gratitude

Hi In my experience, there is a difference between Self-Power Nembutsu and Other Power Nembutsu. Rev George Gatenby writes a lot about the journey through the Three Vows. 19th, 20th then 18th 19th is Self Power Recitation with Other practices 20th is Exclusive Self Power Recitation 18th is Faith/Oth...

Re: Gratitude

Do you have a teacher? If not I would recommend finding one with Settled Faith to transmit to you. in Other Power teaching Transmission is important I experience Nembutsu a lot. Then sometimes in response to Profound Events of Karmic Importance. The Nembutsu is quite powerful in relation to that. So...

Re: Real Vs. Unreal

Calculation is like planning your next day of work or project or a Wedding.

So are calculating our Birth in the Pure Land like this or Entrusting with Faith to the Working of the Original Vow?

The Substance of which is the Nembutsu.

Re: Nembutsu in Prison

Great experience!!! In Jodo Shin, there is a famous saying that Ice melts into Water. This can mean these kind of experiences where out of the pure suffering comes the 'Great Compassion' The constant pull is also a genuine aspect of Aspiration given out of the 'Great Compassion' like a North Star. S...

Re: Are all saved regardless?

Cliff's notes on the thread: - The idea that Alfred Bloom had an Awakening is somewhat antithetical to Jodo Shinshu - "Buddhahood in this very body" is refuted (as a Pure Land teaching) in the Tannisho and differentiated from Pure Land teachings in "Gutoku's notes". Ref 1 , Ref 2 . - The idea that ...

Re: Are all saved regardless?

Greetings, Empty Desire! What you say is different from this Saha world being sustained by compassion, isn't it? Unless I missed Dr. Bloom's point. Emptiness is the Ultimate Reality whether in the Pure Land or in the Saha World. Ignorance is the Obscuration Mind with Dependent Arising and the Cause...

Re: Are all saved regardless?

And even Ippen practiced constant nembutsu, so he also didn't appear to think there was a universal salvation, let alone outside of Amida. Also, with great respect to the late Dr. Bloom, I take issue with the idea of a 'compassion that supports our lives.' What sustains this realm (and all realms o...

Re: Are all saved regardless?

What he means is - On Amida's side, the path is complete. On our side, pre Attainment of Faith we have to follow the Call, which takes the form of Aspiration for Birth in the Pure Land. This means we have to follow the two dynamics of Amida and our Karmic Evil. Until we reach the point of Accepting ...

Re: "Shinjin is none other than Buddha-nature," Shinran's Kyogyoshinsho

Shinjin could be termed as the Realisation of the Nembutsu of Other Power within the individual. Correlating to the Mind of Other Power itself namely Amida as a functioning aspect within the scope of Mahayana Buddhism. So like a Ground/Foundation. Shinjin also has the aspect of Light so Mindfulness ...

Just recite with Sincerity and Respect. The Mind Orientation is important in Self-Power Practice.
