Re: Pointing out instructions

What, exactly, makes the activities of a Vajrayana trained bodhisattva "embodied", but a sutrayana trained bodhisattva not? If the training of a bodhisattva from the sutras alone is also integrated into their behaviour, then your argument fails. The activities of all human beings are &quo...

Re: Pointing out instructions

These are good counter-examples, but I fear they miss the mark. As you yourself say, they are embodied skills. The student will watch very closely, attempt to imitate, and receive feedback, none of which applies here. That's why I referred to the way such an instruction is given entirely via words ...

Re: Pointing out instructions

without some form of direct mind-to-mind (M2M) interaction there are no grounds for the claim that pointing out the true nature of the mind cannot be done by a book Nonsense, a great many things can't be learned from a book yet don't rely on imagining that they are transmitted through telepathy - t...

Re: Pointing out instructions

Nonsense, a great many things can't be learned from a book yet don't rely on imagining that they are transmitted through telepathy - the majority of things involving the transmission of embodied skill and knowledge for example, martial arts, dance, sport, many crafting and artistic skills. I think ...

Re: Misbehavior within Tibetan communities

I’ve heard of stories coming from this one monk’s Gompa, and the current rinpoche of the Gompa is unwilling to do anything about it because the monk belongs to the Gompa and they protect their own. So you've heard some gossip, and you're making assumptions of innocence and guilt. You also seem to t...

Re: Crazy Wisdom Question

I am sorry but are we really going to pretend that rape, exploitation, etc were just enlightemed activity or neccessary evil and their perpetrators are beyond criticism just because they practiced dzogchen? I don't think anyone's saying that. Just that people are too quick to make inferences from t...

Re: Breathing through nose vs. Through mouth in Dzogchen (continued)

I underwent a bachelors degree worth of education on human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and medical management of it, and I’ve been an acute care RN for almost 10 years. So do enlighten me. What are the risks and benefits of nose breathing versus mouth breathing? And indulge me with you...

Re: Lama Lena feat. Garchen Rinpoche: Dorje Phurba

Wow, so many posts speculating based on one sentence, it's kind of embarassing... Instead it might have been smarter to actually check her website. It seems Garchen RInpoche will give the empowerment through Zoom, and she will teach before and after. There's been a bit of discussion because neither...

Re: Lama Lena feat. Garchen Rinpoche: Dorje Phurba

How does the event with this woman feature Garchen Rinpoche? To answer the question, LL seems to have her students attend GR online empowerments in order to receive things she can't give herself. I've no idea if this is just piggybacking off existing GR teachings, or if it's an arranged collaborati...

Re: ChNN and formal trekchö practice

How do you guys order the books? The shangshungfoundation.com is a mess and just doesn't work when I log in, try to contact them etc. The Contact form causes a server error and I don't know what to do. All the best, JS I’ve been known to moan a bit about the website, but it works for me, never had ...

Re: No guru, no dzogchen?

I always find it strange how many people like to hang out in threads and comment on the approach of ChNN and the DC, while not having much/any involvement with either, admitting to not really understanding the approach nor being interested in learning about it, in fact seemingly being actively resis...

Re: Teachers with clairvoyance, alive

Trying to find a clairvoyant teacher is a very good way to tangle yourself up in fantasies, and asking other people for clairvoyant teachers is a good way to tangle yourself up even further in other people’s fantasies.

Re: Why so gray?

For those who have been around the Western dharma scene for a few decades, were there more young people attending teachings in the past? There where a lot in recent years here in the local DC group, we did lot of weekend retreats together. I mean people from 20 to 25 y.o., that's young for me (i wa...

Re: Why so gray?

I get confused as to what it even means these days. Ingram is a figure, but the movement is wider than one person. It's more so the very Bay Area type language you'll hear of "hacking" meditation, optimization, experimentation, etc. If my use of the term is unskillful or unhelpful for you...

Re: Why so gray?

Most that do approach it as “wellness” thing, and don’t understand the distinction between that and Dharma, which leads to all kinds of issues. Even worse, if you want to find younger people, you can look into the "pragmatic dharma" movement. But you're not going to like what you find. It...
