Re: Long meditation session

Addendum:In many Theravada approach, one not only does breathing meditation in formal sittings, but even daily activities(sitting, standing, walking, reclining) , even when going to toilet(apparently buddha recommended that himself in pali sutta)! :toilet: The other popular form of meditation is wal...

Re: Long meditation session

Hello, I'm new to meditation (only practically, theoretically I know a lot of informations about it). I realised that many things what I was doing are useless and waste of time. So I decided to meditate as long as I could. Coz I have a lot of free time I would like to spend that time in meditation....

Re: Five Heinous Crimes = Samaya Breaker ?

I'm also a student of ChNNR. So we should be respectful to one another. You don't need to take my word on anything and I don't expect you to. But please investigate further. amanitamusc, if you claim to be a student of CHNN a highly recommended reading is The Precious Vase. If you still have confus...

Re: is a home made statue acceptable?

The Pratibimbamānalakṣaṇa-nāma or Characteristics of the Proportions of Images by the master Ātreya is a text which describes the qualities of properly proportioned images, and the faults and consequences of improperly formed images. For example, one fault described is that poorly formed images res...

Re: is a home made statue acceptable?

Yes. making properly formed images is wonderful. That”s why we hire skilled craftsman to make them. Tsatsas are made with molds. This thread seems to be going round and round. What are 'properly formed images' as defined in Theravada and Pure Land traditions, please? (This is what the OP is practis...

Re: is a home made statue acceptable?

So, it depends on which tradition we are talking about. In Vajrayana, making statues is a wonderful thing. Tsatsa making is even a practice. And it sounds rather like a joke, if Buddhists have statues everywhere, but those who made them are doomed? I fail to understand the intention of this teachin...

Re: is a home made statue acceptable?

The Lamrim teachings say: firstly, Buddha statues cannot be judged by outward appearance. Every statue is worth the due respect. And secondly, it is a very meritious deed to make a statue or paint a picture of a Buddha or a diety. It is very demeritorious to make images of the Buddha, etc., that do...

There really is no Vajrayāna anywhere but among Himalayan and Mongolian people, apart from Western and Chinese devotees. Shingon is Mantrayāna, not really Vajrayāna. There is no practice of what is known as "unsurpassed yoga tantra" in Shingon. Shingon preceded the transmission of unsurpa...
