Re: Difference between Samskaras and Vasanas

Hi, I think there must me a difference in the sense that vasanas are more like potential, predispositions. Samskara, as 4th skandha, involves active involvment in the process of experience. Eg. 5 omnipresent samskaras, 5 object-ascertaining, are active process that run withing the domain of experien...

Re: Tibetan buddhism and tibetan culture

Of course stuff like tibetan dress, momo, thukpa, are obviously grossly related with tibetan culture, habits etc. Looking more closely, however, how a western practitioner can relate to notion like "all motherly sentient beings" feeling-wise, compared to a tibetan who heard "kindness of all mother-l...

Re: Tibetan buddhism and tibetan culture

Your answers are relevant and helpful. To put it shortly, there is a timeless element, that is universaly valid. Then there are elements, which become skilful means and aids to the path based on faith or belief. Without it they do not work. Also if challenged by a close, rational investigation, they...

Re: Tibetan buddhism and tibetan culture

Thanks for your answers. In fact I do appreciate tibetan culture a lot. Living among tibetans in India or Nepal gives a sense of how everything is perfumed by principles of dharma. In a way its probably a lack of merits, to live in the West and not among Rinpoches, khenpos, yogis, monks, nuns, and l...

Tibetan buddhism and tibetan culture

Hi, in which way one can be able to clearly differentiate which aspects of tibetan buddhism are related with dharma, and which are cultural aspects, linked with both sutrayana an tantric yana. If there is any literature already out there, could you recommend? My point is that for tibetan buddhism, t...

Re: Can the mind only hold a single object at a time?

According to the theravada Abhidharma, yes, one single object. According to yogachara point of view however, this is not the case. The example given is a drum with many stones beating on it same time. Yogachara Abhidharma gives a different view. However I cannot give a textual reference. My kind tea...

Re: Analytical meditation of H.H. Dalailama

Analytical meditation of H.H. Dalailama

hi, does anybody know what H.H. Dalailama means, when he is talking about analytical meditation, as something that really brings about a change in the mind, change in the sense of reducing afflictions? In a general teaching he gave in India few years ago, he said he is doing 5 hours a day vajrayana ...

Re: Karling shitro complete sadhana english trans

hi thanks for your answers- Yes I do have an empowerment and I do have a short sadhana. However a fellow practitioner asked me for a full sadhana.
