Re: buddhas achieve enlightenment through LS (Was "Which has primacy, Buddha or Dharma"?)
This is still a Buddhist discussion forum, correct? Specifically the Mahayana sub-forum? Why are these "it's all made up and it is childish" posts permitted?

Re: buddhas achieve enlightenment through LS (Was "Which has primacy, Buddha or Dharma"?)
Thank you. This is quite different from the presentation of the one vehicle that I'm used to as a Tibetan Buddhist. In the presentation I'm used to, three vehicles are distinguished but actually, all will eventually follow the path of the bodhisattva in order to become buddhas in order to benefit a...

Re: Vajrayana as an aspect of Nichiren practice
My personal opinion, and this is all it is, I think Nichiren had a much deeper interest in Shingon than he admits. Other than Kukai's judgment that in terms of profundity of teaching the Lotus ranks third (Avatamsaka second), he doesn't have much criticism to offer. Sorry, who is the "he"...

Re: Vajrayana as an aspect of Nichiren practice
As far as I know, Lucia Dolce makes the connection most directly, but I think she has moved on to other subjects these days. Jackie Stone also does a bit of work in this area, but tends to stay on the Exoteric side of Tendai and Nichiren. Stone is also retired. Does the distinction exist for Stone ...

Re: "...and skillful means are the Ultimate."
I did a bit of follow-up on this with the author of the quote I cited earlier, Rev. Eijo. Here is the Sanskrit: tad etat sarvajñajñānaṃ karuṇāmūlaṃ bodhicittahetukam upāyaparyavasānam iti upāyaparyavasānam in the above is "skillful means is the ultimate goal." So the full bit, is: "At...

Re: "...and skillful means are the Ultimate."
The translation I'm most familiar with is from Takagi and Dreitlein 2010: World-honored One, what is the cause of such wisdom as this, what is its root, what is its ultimate expression?" After [Vajrapani] said this, the Buddha Vairocana spoke to Vajradhara, the master of secrets, "Well sai...

Re: How Nichiren Shonin could be the Eternal Buddha
I'm talking about the Dharmakaya Body that permeates all of Samsara. Right, that refers to śunyatā, emptiness. Since everything is empty, we can say that the reality buddhas realize pervades everything. So i guess Dzogchen has it's own ideas on what the Dharmakaya body is. ?????? That view isn't un...
Re: "Realms"
Sorry, I don't see the link with this and what the OP was asking. You're quoting a section about the nine methods of teaching the Dharma. It's nothing to do with the Ten Realms. If you read the previous and subsequent text within expedient means he addresses beings in the six realms and then voice ...

i'd like to know the origin (where in the sutras or great commentators) of the ten realms and how Tiantai got his conclusions about them. i made a search and it's curious that something so basic in Nichiren and Tiantai buddhism cannot be traced I thought this was common in all Mahayana traditions, ...

Re: So are Sutras really from the Buddha, or just fiction
If you say it was all a show and his life a mirage you destroy the teaching that buddhahood in human form is attainable. Have you read the Lotus Sutra? Yes. Why not state why you believe I am incorrect based on it. It would end needless doubt and show people can not only read the Lotus but grasp it...

Re: Qigong / Chinese Alchemy in East Asian Mahayana Buddhism?
Thanks. I misunderstood your earlier post in light of the OP question and thought you meant that Alchemy was a part of Shingon. Now I see it's just that Kukai may have had knowledge and/or an interest in it. Academia certainly does have a lot of articles! Is there a way to determine which of those t...

Re: Qigong / Chinese Alchemy in East Asian Mahayana Buddhism?
As for alchemy, Kukai, the founder of the Shingon tradition, was almost assuredly involved with at least some aspects of alchemy. Kukai's relationship with cinnabar and its weidan alchemical ritual implications is repeatedly uncovered by those willing to do research on the matter. Sorry, but aside ...

A July 2017 study published in Environmental Research Letters found that the most significant way individuals could mitigate their own carbon footprint is to have one less child ("an average for developed countries of 58.6 tonnes CO2-equivalent (tCO2e) emission reductions per year"), foll...

I hope you find this sufficient. If not perhaps you can simply let me know where the disconnect is. :anjali: It’s very simple. I asked a number of questions whose answers would have helped me understand those sentences. You wrote several paragraphs without answering any of those questions, except t...
