Re: Accounting for the Chinese Destruction of Tibet

Karma would be the short answer. Then there’s the whole snake in the hollow tube thing with Tantra; and, if in Tibet there were more practitioners not keeping their commitments properly than there were Tibetans who were keeping their commitments properly, I’d think that that alone would have been en...

Maybe not quite be what you’re looking for, but about halfway through the track he chants what sounds to be a Buddha Sutra in Japanese:

Something non-cheesy, and different, that you might be able to appreciate.

Re: Single book that provides survey or overview of tibetan Vajrayana

World of Tibetan Buddhism by the Dalai Lama from what I remember covers a lot regarding Vajrayana specifically; and I recall it not being a very long book.

I haven’t yet read Opening the Door to Bön, but there are a lot of excellent books in English coming from Yungdrung Bön.

I thought that Minobu was lauding Trump for helping (whether witting or unwittingly) the Dalai Lama’s cause....

Sectarian maybe, but not an ghost worshiper (?)

I don’t think that I’ve heard of them, but have you heard some of the tracks I’ve posted in the music thread?

Re: Response to PadmaVonSamba

this is Malcolm's way of inserting his view from studying this from another source and trying to meld it to make the other source viable. Norwegian provided direct quotes. Now maybe you have no connection to Dzogchen, in which case there may not be much that can be done there; but don’t let Malcolm...

Minobu,

Are you saying that Nagarjuna never said that the Four Extremes consists of: Existence, nonexistence, both, and neither?

Re: Sattvic/Yogic Diet Challenge

“I’ve also read that boiling even raw milk kills off the lactic acid bacilli which allow for the digestion of milk.” That wasn’t worded very well. I meant that the lactic acid bacilli is what helps to digest milk, whereas boiling and killing the lactic acid bacilli may decrease one’s ability to dige...

Re: Sattvic/Yogic Diet Challenge

It seems the conclusion is that milk that has been pasteurized then refrigerated , or even drunken cold period, becomes tamasic: https://yogarasayana.com/articles/milk-in-the-age-of-convenience/ In Ayurveda, milk is almost never drunk cold, as it is harder to digest and thus turns the milk from satt...

Re: Dzogchen prerequisite?

See if there are obstacles. I may be simple minded. But I think go for it and see. Meaning that having many obstacles, even despite having received Dzogchen Teachings, may imply that there is no real connection there? Or meaning obstacles to even receiving Dzogchen Teachings? I’ve understood it tha...

Re: Dzogchen prerequisite?

I would think that they either got to Dzogchen by gradually completing each Yana and then completed the Completion Stage.... ...or, may not have completed any of the Yana’s at all, but had contact with one of the Five or Six Liberations, such as myong-grol and thereby received a connection to the Dz...

BTW, my memory isn’t 100% clear on JLA’s exact words regarding what he told me the Dalai Lama said as posted above; but going by memory, that was the gist of it.

Re: What music do you listen to

The question would be, when you listen to music (or do anything really) are you accumulating more traces in the Alayavijnana or not? [...] Also take into account that some types of music may bring stronger traces than others. Of course the music and sounds themselves aren’t the problem; but let’s b...
