:good: And this saying “when the pupil is ready the guru appears” is not Dharma. It’s from populist Hindu teachers and New Age. We need to use all our intelligence and discrimination to seek out a guru. I'd just add also to throw out all sorts of romantic expectations out of the window. People shou...

Re: Importance and Benefit of Ngondro

Not far along, from what I hear. Anyhow, about Ngondro. Prostrations seems to be a pretty big sticking point for a lot of people, understandably. In my own experience, that’s actually the thing I’ve been able to do easiest. And as far as benefits go, I have to say that prostrations really seem to l...

Re: Drib, as contamination

This may sound like a dumb question, but would a practice like a short drib sang practice be taken on as a daily practice or only on occasion? I was given the text, along with the lung, but I am still unsure as to how often I should do this. Also, I know sang practice is generally done in the morni...

Re: Doco - Hannah: Buddhism's Untold Journey

It's not a bad documentary, but I would take it with a grain of salt. As was said Diamond way buddhism is a very controversial sangha and the documentary paints Hannah as a sort of saint which she might have been I don't know. Just... I don't always believe the narrative that Ole Nydahl peddles. But...

Re: Best Bodhicharyavatara Translations

Anybody has any opinion or few cents worth of suggestions? I don't know which is the best translation of the Tibetan edition, but of the Sanskrit I know of none better than the one you already have. Don't be put off by Skilton and Crosby being academics; they are also practising Buddhists of severa...

Most probable. GBI often gets these things wrong if I remember correctly.

Re: Losing faith in enlightenment

One of the things I think the Buddhist teachings make pretty clear is that most of the time, people see what they want to see. The tulku system ‘ain’t exact rocket science’. There is plenty of room where mistakes can happen. And then there are also remarkable examples of co-incidental events which ...

Thank you, lama-la. And what do you think about the form itself? Would it be problematic to fill such statue, that does not really comfort to the "standards"?

Re: Filling Cheap Statues?

Hi, I have bought this cheap Buddha statue. Really mostly just as a form of decoration and a reminder. Plus it was cheap. But I have noticed that since it is ceramic and there is a big hole in it... that maybe it could be filled and blessed to bring some small benefit. What do you think? Would it b...

Riddle me this. Those that oppose abortions, what else would you do except for banning them? Do you plan to work with the causes that lead there?

Re: Practicing after practice when too tired to practice again

So sometimes, like now, I'm completely dead tired and have next to no energy or ability to motivate. I've done as much of a daily sit as I can do without falling asleep and now I'm ready to move on to other activities. The trouble is, what I want to be doing is more practice or in someway further w...

They are only worth mentioning with other Buddhists, or if the woman in question is Buddhist. Even then, we should probably shut up and let Buddhist women discuss it, frankly. The idea that a bunch of Buddhist men are going to moralize and create some kind of personal policy for something we never ...
