Dr. Nida's version is an abbreviation or condensation. Very good. However, if you want Jamgon Kongtrul's original version, PM me. But you'll need to get the lung before doing it.

Thanks Malcolm & Norwegian. Exactly what I was looking for. Even happier to know it was Nyala Pema Dudul who wrote it.

Prayer or a Polemic on Guns
I remember reading a Tibetan prayer or polemic against firearms but now I can't find it. It may have been by Khyentse Wangpo. Does anyone here know what I'm talking about and have a link to this?

Re: What happens in those 3 year retreats?
Yes, you have to be a Buddhist to do the kind of retreat you're describing. And no, it's not for all Buddhists. The institutionalized three-year retreats I believe you're talking about are mainly for those Buddhists who aspire to become Lamas. Typically one takes monk's or nun's vows during the retr...

Re: 100,000 candles??
Will your Lama allow you to commission some of the lamps by other practitioners? If so, there are monasteries in Nepal, etc. who will light "butter" lamps for an appropriate offering. At some of these, one can make the offering via Paypal. This might also be part of the solution. Other types of offe...

Re: Mani stones and bodies of water
Hazel, Maybe I should've said bless or consecrate them, not empower them. In some terma, there are lay-jor (activity practices) specifically for blessing mani stones. For instance, in Orgyen Kusum Lingpa's Amoghapasha terma cycle, there is just such a lay-jor. To do this, one first has to complete t...

Absolutely. As much as possible everywhere you can. If you can learn how to empower these, that'd be even better.

Cinnabar,
I need to reskin one of my damarus. What do you use to hold the skin in place while the glue is drying, and what kind of glue do you use?
You can PM me.

Many years ago, when my Teachers had a center in New York City, we always put the remainders in the East River. One of the students would take them at night.

Re: Seeking advice for all day mantra recitation
This is just me but, if I had a Guru Who told me to do a certain practice, then I would depend entirely upon Him/Her for how to do that practice. I wouldn't be asking others' advice on a public forum like this.

Re: Poll - ngondro accumulations in sequence? (finish one 100,000 then do next?)
Karmanyingpo, I also could've done prostrations with Guru yoga, reciting the seven-limbed offering, but I was impatient to get started and my Teacher had not yet gotten to the Guru yoga section of Kunzang Lamai Sheylung. So He let me start by saying the simple refuge prayer: Namo Lamala Kyabsu Chiwo...

Re: Poll - ngondro accumulations in sequence? (finish one 100,000 then do next?)
My experience is the same as Heart's, i.e., say the whole ngondro text every time but only count one thing at a time beginning with refuge and ending with Guru yoga. Re prostrations, I did prostrations separate from refuge or Vajrasattva. So I did count prostrations while counting other sections of ...

Guru sadhanas are for blessings.
Yidam sadhanas are for siddhi/accomplishment.
Dakini sadhanas are for prophecies and/or activities.

Re: Mipham Rinpoches Name Collection of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
After receiving the lung, you can recite any version of it you please. This total session should last 1 1/2 hours or so. Because there are so many English versions of Zang Chod Monlam, I'm now thinking of not reading it also in English.

Re: Mipham Rinpoches Name Collection of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
Is this Adam? If not, someone else has already asked that. It will depend entirely on time. Zang Chod Monlam is long, especially if I give the lung in both Tibetan and English which is what I would like to do.
