Meditation on Vedana (feeling)

I read Ven. Analayo's article on Vedana (feeling) meditation: https://www.buddhistinquiry.org/article/vedana-part-1-addressing-views-and-clinging-at-the-source/. I have been mainly using a breath (shamata) meditation technique, but I have been adding some vipassana based on Bhante G.'s technique of ...

Re: Mantra on styrofoam, how do I dispose of it?

♸ PLASTIC & STYROFOAM ♸ I have developed an easy, cheap, and relatively safe way to turn polystyrene (styrofoam food containers, packing material, any #6 plastic) into a putty that can be shaped or cast in a mold, then turns hard and can be sanded and painted. The process uses no electricity or hea...

Re: Social interactions

I had pretty bad social anxiety, then I found a couple different forms of qigong that worked for me. The qigong transformed my social anxiety. I'm not saying qigong is a full proof solution, just that it helped in my case. I really like Master Robert Peng's Qigong Master Key Series; it's simple, eas...

Re: Guru Rinpoche devotional practices

I participated in a weekend chanting practice last weekend online with Choegye Drakpa Rinpoche. One of the prayers he taught was this prayer: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15c8JkpCn15T9x2dTb5xfcBcKoSs0NCct/view It is a devotional prayer to HH Jigme Phuntsok. It references Guru Rinpoche a lot and r...

Re: rebirth and veganism

I agree that it seems far-fetched that rocks could be sentient, but I just found this article from ananda that said Paramahansa Yogananda had talked about being a diamond in a past life. I know this is a Buddhist website, but I feel that this perspective could at least be food for thought: https://w...

Re: rebirth and veganism

Perhaps plants don't or ignorance, or the capability to become enlightened... who knows! I'm willing to bet that modern science and buddhism don't have the same definitions of sentience and consciousness. If we're using the word, what are the assumptions behind it? I believe that in some forms of T...

Re: rebirth and veganism

I believe that in some forms of Taoism, they accept plants as part of the reincarnation cycle. I have heard teachers say that many of us had past lives as plants and even minerals. I know of highly developed healers who have directly communicated with mineral spirits.

Re: Chant with Me Series w/ Choegye Drakpa Rinpoche

The third and final session is Sunday, March 21st at 13:30 CET, which is 5:30am PST. I went to the second session today, had to wake up early (5:30a) but it was worth it. Choegye Drakpa Rinpoche taught Green Tara's mantra today. Here are a few things I learned: -When we recite Green Tara's mantra, w...

Re: Would like to chant online with others.... any reccomendations?

Reverend Kasahara, a Jodo Shu priest in Tokyo, Japan, does a monthly zoom call in English that is open to all: https://www.rinkaian.jp/e/ The service is mostly chanting; done in a traditional Jodo Shu manner; with a lot of Namo Amidabu's. I enjoyed it. He also taught some basic principles of Jodo Sh...
