Re: Family in next birth - Cause and Effect Sutra

I don't know specifically, but I was told by a close student of the 16th Karmapa that if one wishes to meet the dharma in one's future life, it is good to practice Guru Yoga. That is an excellent method for creating the cause for meeting the dharma.

Fire Under the Snow, Movie

I just discovered this movie that was put out several years ago; it's about Palden Gyatso, the Tibetan monk who was imprisoned for 33 years in China. He maintained his practice throughout imprisonment, always going back to his meditation while being tortured. He said there were times that he felt ha...

Re: Questions

Compassion is sympathy for the suffering of others and the desire to free them from it. It's more than loving kindness, because beyond being kind to a person, there is an additional wish to be able to alleviate their suffering in a concrete way. From what I understand, there is an active element in ...

Please write to free Tibetan monk Rinchen Tsultrim

Amnesty International currently has a letter writing campaign going to free Tibetan monk Rinchen Tsultrim. Time is of the essence, as the letters must be sent to Chinese officials by August 25th. Here is some background information on the case: https://savetibet.org/tibetan-monk-jailed-for-online-me...

Campaigns and Projects to help Tibetans

Here is a list of things you can do to support Tibet and Tibetans. http://www.umass.edu/rso/fretibet/do.html It is an old list, but I think it could still be helpful. I have heard that writing letters of behalf of prisoners is one of the best ways to help. The letters get through and they make a dif...

Interview with Palden Gyatso, Imprisoned for 33 Years

I was deeply moved by this interview of Palden Gyatso, which was conducted by Annie Lennox. He details some of the abuses he suffered in Chinese prison, and discusses his work of raising awareness for prisoners who have suffered and still suffer. He also talks about how a person must develop their m...

Re: Not sure where to ask this

I can recommend a few books that really helped me to A) understand more about the teachings/understand the fundamentals, and B) develop a reliable practice. *Thich Nhat Hanh, "Heart of the Buddha's Teachings" (this covers the fundamental Buddhist teachings) *Tulku Thondup, Healing Power of...

Re: Giving Up Masturbation

I have also read about yogis recommending one clean their genitals with cold water before bed to prevent the sexual urge. Paramahansa Yogananda advised one to take a towel with cold water and wash the genitals, which is supposed to diminish the sexual urge.

Also, have you seen this prayer from Jamyang Khentse Chokyi Lodro? https://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-ma ... aspiration.

Through this prayer, you are essentially praying to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas for absolution for any wrongdoings.

Recovering health by qigong

[Mod note: This topic was split from here: https://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?p=532713#p532713] I just posted my account of how I recovered quite a bit of my health from doing Robert Peng's AM/PM qigong DVD: https://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=36843 . It's a gentle, soothin...

Recovered My Health using Robert Peng's AM/PM Qigong

About 7 years ago I was very ill with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which traditionally has a cure rate of only 5%, meaning only about 5% of people recover fully after having it. It can be a very disabling illness, it was for me. For about 16 months I was almost completely bedridden and/or housebound an...

Re: IS PURE LAND AN ALIENATED KIND OF BUDDHISM

There's a new book on Pure Land Buddhism that's really good; it written by Charles Jones. It's called Pure Land: History, Tradition, and Practice. It may or may not have the answers you're looking for, but it is worth reading IMO. He talks about how Pure Land evolved; how it travelled to different c...
