Re: Teachers in Dharmasala

Chamtrul Rinpoche lives in Dharamsala, he is a great scholar who studied under Jigme Phuntsog Rinpoche in Tibet. He also undertook several longer retreats. He mostly teaches Longchen Nyingthig. He has Western students and his English is quite good. His place in Dharamsala is quite small, so you will...

Re: Milarepa (split from: Are there tertons at Gelug School?)

fabulous info, thanks dzoki ! ...he did not include thogal in his Drugpa Kagyu mahamudra teachings... do you know why is that? also, any idea if Shakya Shri's pure vision ngandzong is transmitted? I suppose because there was no thogal teaching in mahamudra tradition to begin with. As for Ngamdzong ...

Re: Milarepa (split from: Are there tertons at Gelug School?)

...There is a thogal instruction in Ngamdzong Nyengyu... just to make that clear: are you talking about historical Ngandzong/demchog nyengyu or Shakta Shri's pure vision version? Shakya Shri was a dzogchenpa who received Kunzang Thugtig from Khamtrul Rinpoche and Chetsün Nyingthig from Adzom Drugpa...

Re: Milarepa (split topic)

...If those teachings were so ineffective, it would be quite strange, that Milarepa would trasmit them to Namdzong Tonpa Changchub Gyalpo as innermost part of what became to be known as Ngamdzong Nyengyu... wait, what? dzoki, are you saying the core of demchog/ngandzong nyengyu is dzogchen instruct...

Re: Changchub Dorje Kalachakra

Hello, I have a question for anyone who has the Longsal teachings volume 10. It mentions both the Longsal Ati Kalachakra (which I do not believe I have transmission for) as well as Changchub Dorje’s anuyoga kalachakra (which I do have transmission for). It also mentions that there is a commentary. ...

Re: Milarepa (split from: Are there tertons at Gelug School?)

Just to add, the idea of terma is not exclusive to Nyingma lineage, as Marpa, Milarepa, Rechungpa and Gampopa hid termas. Marpa´s terma was discovered by Guru Chokyi Wangchug and is included in Rinchen Terdzo. Not sure, who discovered Milarepa´s terma (if I remember right his terma were physical obj...

Re: Milarepa (split topic)

These dzogchen teachings were ineffective and by the way, from this paper you can read that there is a possibility that this dzogchen teacher comes from bon tradition, not nyingma. Here is the story according to the 3rd Karmapa. If those teachings were so ineffective, it would be quite strange, tha...

Re: Decline of interest in Buddhist Traditions

My observation is that the interest in Dharma is in decline and in general it has not taken root in Western societies. Dharma is practiced by small groups of people, but there is no "out-break" as some early pioneers and Asian teachers had maybe hoped. The reason is in my opinion two fold - 1. There...

Re: Are there tertons at Gelug School?

Lama Tsongkhapa placed a strong emphasis on practices that he believed could be verifiably traced back to India. Not really, if you take into consideration Tsongkhapa's acceptance of various pure vision practices that he recieved from Umapa Tsondru Sengge, which are still practiced in Gelug to this...

Re: Kagyu lineage/school which teaches shentong mahamudra or dzogchen?

mahamdudra with shentong view There is no mahamudra with shengtong view, there is madhyamaka with shentong view. The view of Mahamudra transcends the view of madhyamaka, it is more complete than the view of madhyamaka. Also in madhyamaka one discovers the view by conceptual analysis, but it is a ki...

I should have explained in more detail, but I meant just relying on the mantra without doing elaborate yogas of the two stages. Many years ago I was present when someone suggested this to Thrangu Rinpoche and he answered; "without the visualisation there will be no siddhi". /magnus One just needs t...

Re: Who is Siddha Dorje Tsoncha?

He is an Indian master, several of his works dealing with outer tantras are included in Tengyur. His more common name is Dorje Kocha. As for his Indian name I think it is Vajravarman, not to be confuesd with the king Vajravarman of Bangala.

By this I meant external. One needs a mountain, a schedule, a person who carries food, etc. but I still think it doesn't guarantee that effectively it becomes retreat. Is it? Of course it does not guarantee it, but it helps. One of the purposes of the retreat is to isolate one´s three gates from no...

Hi, is it normal to feel sleepy during long life deity mantralization? One of my teachers told me that feeling sleepy (if you are not particularly tired or sick) during the practice can be a sign of past damage to samaya, he recomended doing Vajrasattva to clear this obstacle away or alternatively ...
