Re: Dzogchen in Germany
I think it comes from translating "Dzogrim" as "Vollendungsstufe" and Kyerim as "Erzeugungsstufe". So "Dzog" is translated as "Vollendung", thus Dzogchen (Santi Maha) is translated as "Grosse Vollendung". Since "Maha" means "great", I think "Grosse Vollendung" is not that bad. "Totale Vollkommenheit...

So they put out guidelines that make it impossible to be part of the whole thing and teach any other thing than sutra to newbies: The main characteristic of Public Courses is that everything related to Sutra teachings can be freelytaught in the three aspects of View, Meditation and Behavior, whereas...

:good: People don't seem to understand that when conferring an empowerment, the Guru transmits a method to the student. If the student is not realised during the empowerment, he or she should follow that method afterwards, because otherwise, there is not much sense in giving and receiving the empowe...

Re: Ability to Control the Weather
If you are a bodhisattva, practice the inner tantras (or anuttarayoga) and have developed a certain capability of doing inner and outer things, you will use your skills naturally when the circumstances demand it. And you will do it without making a big fuss about it. There really is no need to specu...

I really wish the DC all the best for the benefit of all beings but the whole talk by Adriano Clemente seems to come from a state of denial. From the talk: "and some people say that the membership is half of what it was last year and that many problems are arising." I you give such a talk via webcas...

Buddhism is the only religion I ever had, thanks to my parents. I don't see anyone practice even shamata in monotheistic religions so you would have to invent something new even on that level. /magnus You don't see because you choose not to see. Christianity has shamatha, mantra recitation as well ...

Re: Alzheimer's Disease
My mother was here now 100% on an emotional level. And she was conscious about social interactions. What was damaged was her cognitive thinking. Skills, comprehending and analyzsing were damaged. She never knew how old she was and what was this house she was living in, but she knew very well if a p...

Re: Alzheimer's Disease
Thank you very much for your answer. You really described the ambiguity of Alzheimer. My step-grandmother had Alzheimer and my wife and me visted her often. She died over 5 years ago but I still have not really gotten what Alzheimer is. Although I am sure that the brain is not the conciousness, Alzh...

Re: First rate translators in non-English European languages
To the OP: Lama Henrik Havlat did a few very good translations together with his then consort Lama Waltraud. They translated directly from tibetan into german. They translated only Karma Kamtsang Texts, as far as I know. Usually I read the english first-hand translations from the original texts, but...

Alzheimer's Disease
Dear community, what is the view of Alzheimer's Disease regarding Sutra (and maybe also Tibetan Medicin)? My understanding is that the brain is damaged and so the skandha of consciosness (विज्ञान vijñāna) is in a way out of order. What are the karmic causes of this damage and how does it affect the ...

Things or material objects have different qualities, a bag of garbage is different from another bag of garbage that holds inside a person's wristwatch that she had accidentally put there through her absent-mindedness. Later the person realised what had happened and ran frantically searching through...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu
This joyful event will take place in the course of two days, at the end of which the participants will have received the transmission and in all respects will be practitioners of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu. This sounds a bit crazy. You cannot be a pracitioner (meaning student) of some master you have ne...

In a post-ngöndro nyingma-saddhana, you usually do all nine yanas combined.

I'd recommend to use guggul (Commiphora wightii) on charcoal, like one does when doing sang, instead of using incense.
