Re: Is a shrine important
No offense to you guys but you are converts and so this sense of continuity is not in your flesh. It’s not in yours either. And we are not “Buddhist converts.” There is no such thing. Meeting the Dharma in this life is a function having met the Dharma in a past life. It’s not a genetic thing, nor i...

Re: What does Buddhism say about gender?
The stack exchange says that Buddhism says it's an illusion. Sure it is. Buddhism says that everything in the phenomenal world is an illusion. It is true, but so what? That does not mean that the phenomenal world and all the illusory things in it do not exist in their own way. During the Tang Dynas...

Re: Vidyadhara Heruka - Dudjom Lineage Tree
If I recall there is a similar figure in the Tendrel Nyesel. The "ninth heruka" is the guru Vidyadhara in many systems--for instance, Rigdzin Dupa in Longchen Nyingthik is a Guru Accomplishment--but also understood as yidam practice. How interesting, yes the same stance and Heruka style. Seemingly ...

Re: Subtle body
1. Does the subtle body exist conventionally? Or is it just a way to work with with our anatomy and physiology? My take: Does the nervous system exist conventionally? What about the cardiovascular system? There are both abstractions taken from viewing the body from outside, they exist in a conventi...

Re: Dudjom Tröma Nagmo ngondro
Adamantine, thanks for clarification. that's not my idea, i've been told that those whose heart practice is Thröma Nakmo has 3 vows: body - not cutting your hair, action - always remain natural and never correct the way you display yourself, mind - remain in true nature of mind. these are not exact...

Re: Dudjom Tröma Nagmo ngondro
i am not making any claims, i just thought that being Dudjom Tersar lineage holder doesn't mean one has Thröma as his main practice, does it? long hair vow is specifically Thröma vow. so my way of thinking is even if Pema Rigtsal Rinpoche is Dudjom Tersar lineage holder and coming from Dudjom Töluk...

Dharmasagara, very valuable info, thank you! if i recall Yudron has mentioned that in Thöluk they do SaTer ngöndro first, then Thröma ngöndro. a longer Ngöndro authored by Degyal Rinpoche at i didn't now there is a ngöndro by Degyal Rinpoche. do you have any bits of info on that one? Tholuk lineage...

Re: What it means to be a ngakpa
I’m no authority on this, but as mentioned earlier, there are some empowerments e.g. Vajrakilaya, Troma Nagmo that during the initiation one is ‘empowered’ to certain implements while being empowered for the practice you’re receiving. Accessories such as the striped robe, earrings, uncut hair, vajra...

I'm a practioner of the Dudjom Tersar but for my livelihood/job I'm presently writing my Masters Thesis on this topic. Specifically, the way that Mindfulness programs are being introduced to schools. Begin :soapbox: It's still such a fresh area, and a recent word in the Wests vernacular. Even in tra...

It was given only a few months ago in Australia by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. I'm sure there will be a time in the future where this empowerment is given again as its an important treasure of the Khyentse lineage.

The Guru Yoga of Dudjom Lingpa (vol. 15 (ba), p. 1-4) also includes a reference to him as Chemchog Vajra Heruka.

Vidyadhara Heruka - Dudjom Lineage Tree
Within the Dudjom Tersar Lineage Tree, amongst the 8 Kagye Deities below the central Guru Rinpoche is a ninth figure; a white Heruka in union with a light-red consort. According to Robert Beer's description, this is Vidyadhara Heruka: "Below the Buddha assembly is the standing white form of Vidyadha...

Tibetan White Crane Kungfu Origins
I am seeking further information on the origin of the Tibetan White Crane martial art known as Lama Pai. The supposed founder is A da tuo zun zhe (阿達陀) and is claimed (on Wikipedia) to have it's origins in Tibet from a form of martial art known as the "Lion's Roar" (獅子吼). Lion's Roar sounds like a p...

From another discussion on this forum called "What is Blessing?" Byin rlabs means quite literally "conferral [rlabs] of power [byin]." Byin is defined in Tibetan as "the ability or power to transform the minds and vision/appearances of another." The word Byin rlabs is defined in Tibetan as "the powe...
