Re: At what stage of meditation do you start to experience something really profound?

I know people who very readily see, hear and feel deities or Buddhas. Unfortunately, their afflictive emotions never seem to diminish. Profound, to me, would be that you can automatically liberate your afflictions without effort. The rest will come. Of course, if you want to see things you can focus...

Yes, unfortunately, this happens too often. Sharing the name would be good.

Re: Prayers for my dharma situation

Thank you everyone... Update.. I got in touch with my main teacher and Rinpoche basically gave me a big "It's okay" ... I am almost moved to tears right now with gratitude for his wisdom and kindness. Here is some advice for everyone: Internet vajrayana can make things more complicated because diff...

Re: Namkhai Norbu lineage

This doesn't seem to be the official position of the Dzogchen Community. It is simply the way Vajrayana works. No tantra proclaims that it must be announced who can transmit something - just that certain criteria are met. Virgo The Dzogchen Community is not following the Tantras then? What a curiou...

Re: Prayers for my dharma situation

It can be overwhelming in the beginning because just creating a framework for it all takes time, especially the Tibetan tradition (totally worth it though). Then, you feel you are not making any progress or actually doing worse than before which creates doubts. So, relax. It's going to be a lifelong...

Re: Namkhai Norbu lineage

There is no official lineage holder. This does not mean that there are no people who are qualified to give the transmissions they have received. I think I understand the difference. Possibly. However, due to the fact that CNN held the Longsal cycle so closely, and the fact that he never really auth...

Well, others will have more detailed explanations, but just by the normal standards for transmission of lungs: 1/ the person giving it needs to be able to read it in the language it was originally given, and give any associated empowerments and methods of introduction required in order to read it; ...

As we've discussed before, I don't believe that there is no path forward for ChNNr's own termas. But it is important that any subsequent transmission of them is done properly.
What does transmitting them properly entail in this context?

Re: Is This A Tribal Site Or A Philosophy Site?

I've already invited members to share such information in the thread above. It works better if you would ask more pointed question I think. What have you read about Buddhism or heard from teachers that is unclear to you. You will get more sharing that way. Otherwise it's like asking random people t...

Re: Is This A Tribal Site Or A Philosophy Site?

Greetings all, new user here, thanks for making this forum available. A brief introduction: My understanding of Buddhism is very modest, average man in the street level. I spend a ton of time in nature where I enjoy silence, and a ton of time on the Net where I enjoy noise. Thus my screen name: Nat...

Re: Vajra Armor (Dorje Gotrab) Question

The bottom line for me with this thread (and so many others this last year on DW) is that I just don't believe you can practice Vajrayana effectively via Internet alone . You need a personal Teacher Who you interact with in meat-space, at least from time to time -- a Teacher Who knows you, knows yo...

Re: Vajra Armor (Dorje Gotrab) Question

I guess you can't really go wrong with doing the strict 3-day retreat without interruptions and distractions. That should actually help if you want to focus on DG practice and go deeper. The rest really is just distraction which keeps you from practicing what you initially mentioned you wanted to pr...

Arnoud, your post is very spiritually compact. I will take some time to nourish myself with them. Thanks a lot. Yes on all your points. I'll check out the resources, Alan Wallace teachings, Malcolm's, and the links you provided. Why Nyingma/Dzogchen - Before becoming Buddhist, I was a...

Yes. You practice dzogchen by practicing Vajrayana.

. Anyone who practices Vajrayana is practicing Dzogchen.
No.
Nonduality. That's the thing.

Re: What's working with a main guru like?

What am I looking for in a teacher? I am looking for a teacher with orthodox teachings, conservative, but delivered in simple terms, understandable, sometimes humorous, and other times deep Most of the ones you mentioned would fit that description. But it is good to know what you want. Sogyal Rinpo...

Re: What's working with a main guru like?

I'm curious to know what to expect. There are many variations. Find something that works for you. Do we have to be on the same city? No, but it helps if you want to become close I am sure. Can the entire process by done remotely via zoom? Right now that is probably the safest way. Of course, face t...
