Re: Self-care or just selfishness?
Focusing all your attention on those 2 words is precisely why it's missing the forest for the trees. "Please smile, breathe and play in a way that allows you to be in touch with the abundance of happiness."~Thich Nhat Hanh This is precisely “manifesting wellness” language too. There is no...

Re: Self-care or just selfishness?
I don’t think I’m being too charitable. I just don’t think Facebook posts should be, or are intended to be, dissected with a fine tooth comb word for word, like it’s some kind of doctoral dissertation. It’s a Facebook post. And what’s the message? The message is you should show compassion to yourse...

Re: Self-care or just selfishness?
Just to say, while I think that New Age wellness and spirituality stuff is often harmless, and can be beneficial in some circumstances, it can also be profoundly harmful in others. There are a lot of spirituality influencers who have taken the whole "trust your intuition above all else" t...

How about just plain aggressiveness?
Anyway, it’s best if possible to be specific, otherwise people cannot examine the behavior you take issue with. Sorry it didn’t work out here and best of luck on wherever the journey takes you.

Re: Self-care or just selfishness?
I still don't see what's wrong with attempting to cultivate compassion for oneself or encouraging others to have compassion for themselves. Trying to help other people have more compassion for themselves, is itself compassionate, as self hatred is much more destructive than self compassion. Plenty ...

Re: Self-care or just selfishness?
Don't see any issues with it, unless it reaches the point of the selfishness definition where it says "arising from concern with one's own welfare or advantage in disregard of others " If it's not disregarding others, I don't see the problem. As someone who is (at least theoretica...

Re: Is it bad to study western philosophy?
It’s just a question of time. Life is short and the older you get the faster it rushes by. You have to decide what is worth your time, that’s it.

Re: Self-care or just selfishness?
Sure, no problem then. I was just raising the point that the phrase “self-love” is a slippery concept in our culture. It needs qualification — What exactly is self-love? How do we love ourselves, in practice? Sure, but seems a bit much for a facebook post though. How you going to teach all that in ...

Re: Self-care or just selfishness?
It’s about what you identify as self-love. Thich Nhat Hanh isn’t talking about smoothies and massages, he’s teaching a way to find self-love from within. Ok, but the FB post makes no mention about smoothies or massages. The post is precisely about finding self love from within. It's saying the same...

Re: Bon REalized teachers & online teachings
Hello Can anyone recommend Dzogchen Bon realized living masters to be with and learn from ?? I am based in Belgium .... and I wonder is the trend of online empowerments/teachings really useful beyond the intellectual understanding ?? Does not one have to be face to face with the master ? A Master t...

Re: Is there really a need for a pointing out instruction frpm
There seems to be a lot of responses, which I don't have time to read just now, so apologies if this repeats what has already been said. For myself, when I was (even more of) a beginner (than I still am), I had some doubts of the necessity as well. At that point I looked it from a perspective of in...

It pretty much comes down to:

Re: Is there really a need for a pointing out instruction frpm
Alright. I think you're wrong. You have no basis for your opinions and do not understand a very foundational aspect of Dzogchen, but you can think whatever you want, and it is your choice to remain ignorant. No one is here is going to indulge fantasies about self-taught Dzogchen though. You have a ...

Re: Is there really a need for a pointing out instruction frpm
Maybe. Maybe not. This is a lot of suspecting. And they are predictable if someone is very involved in the tradition. You think because I ask questions, because I read Tulku urgyen and longchenpa, that I can’t recognise my true nature. That I have doubts. But this is because, I am breaking a lot of...

Re: Is there really a need for a pointing out instruction frpm
Look for the looker. If you find nothing, that’s the finding. That’s not recognizing the nature of mind in the sense meant by Dzogchen introduction. It’s just a very preliminary instruction. In some systems it’s the first thing the teacher will ask you to do, prior to any kind of preliminary or int...

self-compassion-es.jpg when does (helpful, reasonable, positive) self-care spill over into (unhelpful, unrealistic, narcissistic) selfishness? Don't see any issues with it, unless it reaches the point of the selfishness definition where it says "arising from concern with one's own welfare or a...

Not at all, I really appreciate the answer and your thought process, and I really like your point of view. Also, is disturbing as I find the replication crisis, I suppose I also find it encouraging that the basic skills of the therapist are probably the most important. That seems (from my admittedl...
