I recommend reading this book by dharmawheel's owner Stephen Snyder. It is very very interesting. Re: The Ease of Receiving Empowerments
Why is it so easy to receive empowerments when the risk is so high? It is rather easy to receive an empowerment that some center have requested in order to get some income. It is not so easy to request an empowerment yourself for an practice that you actually trust as a complete path to liberation ...

Re: The Ease of Receiving Empowerments
There is no risk. Without Vajrayana everyone is going to hell, it is only a matter of time. And it is not a chance of buddhahood, it is certainty, again a matter of time. That is if you actually accept what the Vajrayana has to say on the matter. Please provide a citation that. What about Hinayana ...

Re: The Ease of Receiving Empowerments
Apparently there is an equation at work. At some point it's worth risking a number of beings going to hell for the chance for someone to realize Buddhahood through Vajrayana. There is no risk. Huh? What don't you understand? Apparently there is an equation at work. At some point it's worth risking a number of beings going to hell for the chance for someone to realize Buddhahood through Vajrayana. Again, I'm not trying to cause a stink. I just need to explain the suffering I've experience...

Re: The Ease of Receiving Empowerments
One answer is that this is the Kali Yuga and that the great teachers in their wisdom have decided the benefits of wide exposure to Vajra Dharma outweigh the risks in the present age, I feel there is some truth to this, especially in that in today's weird, media-saturated sense world, Vajrayana fits...

Re: The Ease of Receiving Empowerments
Why is it so easy to receive empowerments when the risk is so high? because we are naive and the system is based on memberships and donations. So your perspective is good dharma practitioners need funding, and evil westerners need connections? How many people in Vajra Hell are worth the production ...

Re: Female Buddhas in the texts
The Devadatta chapter of the lotus sutra a female achieves instant and perfect enlightenment. After she transforms into a man endowed with the "thirty-two marks." She's still referred to as "her" afterwards, however. You need to dig into Korean zen lineage texts for this information, but Bodhidharm...

Re: Thoughts in Samatha Meditation
Can someone give Samatha (mindfulness of breathing) instructions? And also, how to deal with thoughts included. For example, I used to really like dealing with thoughts in meditation. I would be able to notice space between my thoughts (time) and I would acknowledge when my mind follows a line of t...

Re: Questioning My Compatibility With Theravada Buddhism
I’m documenting some observations and bumps I’ve encountered. A warning, I plan on being frank. Your feedback or corrections would be appreciated, but you don’t have to feel obligated to read this or respond. It seems highly unlikely that in 2,500 years only one set of texts (i.e., Pali Canon) were...

Re: Questioning My Compatibility With Theravada Buddhism
Renunciation is still in Mahayana and Vajrayana. You’re right. But what may distinguish the renunciatory teachings of Theravada and, say, Zen is Buddha-nature. Buddha-nature is an unambiguously altruistic principle that encourages people, including monastics, to look beyond themselves, and act for ...
