Re: Seeking a guru
You may not find your guru there but you might make a friend or two. In all honesty, what good would it be to continue searching if neither the Mahayana nor the Theravada path can offer the only thing I want? It's only nothing to the point where I do not and cannot even recognize that I am/have not...

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
Well, how does the experience of "self" end? Because no amount of meditation will erase the physical fact that is this body, which will always ground, produce, and inform an experience of the world in all its possible manifestations. Unless you can tell me how to end that fundamental set ...

Re: Seeking a guru
Sometimes - gasp! - google map is wrong. This happened in our neighborhood, it took years to get them to show a new street, and they still give wrong directions. Maybe worth at trip to check it out. Just sayin'. Idk, if they're anything like how some of the folk here are, I'm not sure I'm intereste...

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
You really need to take sone fundamental teachings. I’m not saying that to be rude, but your questions here are answered in all kinds of places. These aren’t new or vexing questions, and their answers are found in teachings on dependent origination, meditation such as Vipassana, etc. Anyway “interd...

Re: Seeking a guru
I guess I was confused since they had their grand opening celebration there a year ago and this picture was taken there a month ago, and Google maps has it marked. My mistake. For some reason, my Google site shows nothing there but a Baptist Church. I swear I'm not attempting to be difficult, that'...

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
It seems that you may still be holding onto the notion of an intrinsically existing “self” (atman) that is experiencing all of this life and death stuff. How can I not hold on to the "atman", when the body still lives? Last I checked, Buddhism doesn't teach in the non-existence of the sel...

Re: Seeking a guru
You've suggested this teacher and location a few times. They are not present at that site anymore, as a quick Google search would reveal. Thank you for trying.PadmaVonSamba wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 4:59 pm

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
You missed the fact that a Bodhisattva at this level has gone beyond the samsaric duality of coming or going. Samsara isn’t experienced as personal suffering at this point. The question of whether to stay or leave matters as much as which socks to wear matters to a person who likes to go barefoot. ...

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
In that case, you missed the main points of Mahayana teachings, Arhathood does not last forever, eventually Arhats will have to enter the Bodhisattva path as well. They are not eternal state. What a cruel conception of existence! This literally makes everything a Catch 22, where you stay if you wan...

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
You are describing state of Arahanthood above not Buddhahood. In which case, I would hope that more beings would accept Arahanthood over Buddhahood. That way, we can give the Bodhisattvas their due rest. Nuts to coming back, under any form, circumstance, or reason. The only true value in existence ...

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
Thank you everyone for the posts so far, it's been helpful. I can't say I'm convinced that calling teachers back is a good thing for both the students and the teachers. Again, at what point is Enlightenment our own responsibility? Why continue to "play" in Samsara, and thus be the cause of...

Re: Why not let the lamas go?
Thank you for the replies, everyone. A teacher's liberation is bound to helping us us reach our own liberation, in a way their Bodhicitta leaves them no choice. This is the basis of the Mahayana. If it works any other way it stops being the Mahayana. This is a deep principle, you can really feel it ...

Why not let the lamas go?
Good evening everyone, I'm sure many here are already aware of the recent passing of Lama Zopa Rinpoche. During his final meditation, his passing, and after his passing, people have been praying for his swift return in the most fortuitous conditions for him to be of benefit to other beings. I will s...

the post formerly known as the one asking: "how does sutra relate to tantra?"
Hi everyone, :namaste: I wasn't sure whether to put this in one of the tantra threads or some other one (moderators, please feel free to shift this post as you see fit). I was initially going to ask a question about whether sutra could be used as an effective and appropriate stand-in for a qualified...

_/\_ Thank you everyone who replied to this thread. Life is busy, and I wanted to give an equally thoughtful reply for your thoughtful points. The following is intended to help everyone understand things better, more than as a direct reply to anyone in particular. I think I feel a little more at eas...

Re: How can one tell?
In Dharma terms you really need involvement with a teacher and a lineage of practice to get those kinds of pointers, otherwise it’s just groping in the dark. It’s also a lot about understanding your capacity and what kind of student/practitioner you are. Different lineages have different approaches...

How can one tell?
Good day everyone :namaste: , I decided to post this here, since I'm not sure where else this may fit. I have a question I would like to ask the digital Sangha: Is it possible for a being to self-identify where/if they are in the stages of realization and, if so, how may one go about gaining confide...

Re: Why the Earth Spirit testified for Siddhartha Gautama's insights
At least, that is my reasoning. How bittersweet it will be if the Spirit of the Earth rises again, but this time in a wrathful form, to vanquish the incarnations of Mara throughout this planet. Yes, great evils usually are self-destructive, no matter where they take up residence and influence in ex...

Re: Why the Earth Spirit testified for Siddhartha Gautama's insights
Thank you to those who found sources that I was not able to locate. I knew I didn't just dream versions of the story with an Earth-related supernatural entity. Now, I don't think the Buddha needed the Earth goddess (or spirit, or voice, or empirical evidence from nature itself, whatever it may or ma...

Hi everyone,
Sorry for the bad link! Here is another source that mentions an Earth goddess from the Philadelphia Museum of Art: https://philamuseum.org/collection/obje ... destroyer.
