Re: Fuji Taiseki-ji Kenshōkai
Yeah the old SG had some big downsides- quite too much control business, pushing you to do activities and so on. Reluctance was often viewed as a lax practice, or unwillingness. Sometimes that kind of thing is healthy encouragement to get you out of a comfort zone, but for sure a lot of times it wa...

Re: Fuji Taiseki-ji Kenshōkai
As a participant in many festivals, including security in the hot sun for hours or guarding such things as an out of the way metal plaque of Toda at two in the morning, I wouldn't say joyful. Don't forget QQ, we were always encouraged to smile no matter how awful we felt. True joy? No. M I believe ...

Re: Dai Gohonzon
some random thoughts. ever think about all those gohonzon where the buddha resides ? Chanting with all them in mind, towards a unified prayer for the BOA to be happy and safe? It's important to realize that these eye opened gohonzon are The Buddha. All vajrayana practices are to benefit oneself thr...

Re: Dai Gohonzon
after reading " Opening the Eyes of Wooden and Painted Images" https://www.nichirenlibrary.org/en/wnd-1/Content/11 i came to a conclusion. This comes under the heading of this gosho and shows why when chanted to it is effective. i think faith is a barrier to chanting with any image . even...

Possibly similar to SG in the old days- we did streetcorner campaigns, strongly encouraged friends and families to go to meetings. It was a strongly numbers-driven organization; you were always pushed to have visitors in meetings, bringing in new members; the more the better, as a sign of your comm...

Re: Fuji Taiseki-ji Kenshōkai
:) Just recently back before covid closed everything I was joking with my old YWD chapter leader the other day that he only calls me to do activities when the weather is really hot or really cold lol At various times I've slept in airports and in a sleeping bag on grass supporting SG activities, th...

Re: What to do with water and food after offering?
I want to offer the Triple gem and Bodhisattvas water and food (fruits or cooked vegetarian items) at home. Can I drink the water and eat the food after some time? If the altar offerings must not be consumed, should they be given to someone or placed somewhere outside? Are there any specific ways t...

Re: Are forums still a thing?
They are slowly fading, Reddit and similar are sort of replacing them. I am old-ish and I prefer this format. I won't do modern social media generally. I stopped once I realized it was making me unhappy, and that in some ways it is designed to. Yes, they've been slowly fading for some time now...ye...

Are forums still a thing?
I'm a bit of a technology dinosaur. I love forums, I'm from the "olden days" of the early internet, when forums were basically one of the main ways for communicating with others online... certainly for conversation and asking questions. If you Google a search on this, something like "...

Re: The various Treasures of the Buddha of the various sects
From concluding diagram of Nichiren's important writing, The "Rooster" Diagram: Object of devotion of the T’ien-t’ai (Nichiren) School school, the Thus Come One Shakyamuni as the Buddha who actually carried out practice and achieved enlightenment in the inconceivably remote past Vairochan...

Re: The Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path in light of the Lotus Sutra
 Vasubandhu's "Treatise on the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law" could certainly shed some light on the matter. Thanks for pointing this out. The Tibetian Buddhist Encyclopedia has a short article on this treatise: http://tibetanbuddhistencyclopedia.com/en/index.php?title=Treatis...

Re: Fuji Taiseki-ji Kenshōkai
In the US, SGI does, and back when it was Nichiren Shoshu America. So Soka Gakkai got that from Nichiren Shoshu, but then discontinued after the separation? Or do they still do this? If not, any reason that they didn't continúe the práctice that you're aware of? Guessing, then, that Nichiren Shoshu...

Re: Fuji Taiseki-ji Kenshōkai
SGI USA formed from Nichiren Shoshu America after the schism, but the drumming/dancing/performances etc were all inherited from earlier days in Japan- part of the currency of the lay practice. They are done at various scales; smaller exhibitions in the more local meetings, much fancier and extensiv...
