Re: Tibetan Medicine primer - especially for pyschological states

Hoping Malcolm or someone else might be able to help here. I'm taking a class essentially on "alternative" frameworks to pyschotherapy. Half of it is good, some information on Ayurveda and a little on TCM. The other half is almost unbearable new age nonsense, seriously it's bad. I'm wondering if a ...

Re: lockdowns on Nichiren site .

When threads cease to be productive and people are just using them to be divisive, or to underhandedly insult one another, or the conversation is simply becoming circular, locking them is a perfectly reasonable response. Making judgement calls about which threads are circling the drain is part of m...

Re: Does a Vegan Damaru exist anywhere?

Really sad. Such a gathering of vajra family together with ones guru should be a moment of profound joy. Ah.... Sad indeed.. Out of curiosity, did the people who flipped out get preachy on just vegan grounds or did they also try to use Buddhism as justification? KN Oh. Buddhism was the justificatio...

Re: Does a Vegan Damaru exist anywhere?

People objected to meat and alcohol in a feast offering? How did that play out exactly? Did they know anything about the ritual they were performing, or the vows they had taken? Yes. A lama taught here. Then we did a ganachakra at the end. A nice one. These three vegan peeps flipped the frak out. T...

Re: Mantra on styrofoam, how do I dispose of it?

♸ PLASTIC & STYROFOAM ♸ I have developed an easy, cheap, and relatively safe way to turn polystyrene (styrofoam food containers, packing material, any #6 plastic) into a putty that can be shaped or cast in a mold, then turns hard and can be sanded and painted. The process uses no electricity or hea...

Re: Does a Vegan Damaru exist anywhere?

Then smith is saying ... So what .. your circumstances, you deal with it. You figure it out.. Nothing to do with vajrayana Malcolm's exact statement was "Vajrayana and Veganism are mutually exclusive." All I asked was for him to clarify if he was referring to this statement specifically for a damar...

Re: Does a Vegan Damaru exist anywhere?

I did answer it. You just didn't like the answer. If we rephrase the question to, can one practice chod to positive effect with a damaru that is made non traditionally, with only vegan materials, what would the answer be? (and then to expand, to what extant can one practice chod and accomplish the ...

Re: Does a Vegan Damaru exist anywhere?

It does. But there is still no such thing as a vegan damaru, at least, not in any tantra with which I am familiar. I never said there was a vegan damaru. My damaru certainly isn’t vegan. And no. You didn’t answer my sincere question. You were quite oblique. “People can do what they want” can be tak...

Re: Mantra on styrofoam, how do I dispose of it?

Without really thinking through it, I drew the Green Tara mantra on some styrofoam. Any suggestions on how to respectfully dispose of it? Normally, there is a puja that can be preformed where dharma texts are burned. However I can't burn styrofoam. One thought is that I could melt it with chemicals...

Why transliterations, from same Mantras, differs. There are specific methods being applied or it is just the knowledge amd wisdom of the translator ? Re: About translations and transliterations

Karmanyingpo, I think you may be using "transcription" in a somewhat idiosyncratic way when you say that it's what KathyLauren called phonetics. Her explanations are, I think you'll find, standard: 1) translation: meaning in one language to corresponding meaning in another. Hopefully! Due to unavoi...

Re: About translations and transliterations

You say that "for example "khrid" is a transcription from Tibetan script to latin Script", but usually this would be called a transliteration. A transcription would be listening to a Tibetan say that word and then writing it down, either as "khrid" or using Tibetan script. Oops that was my mistake,...

Re: About translations and transliterations

A translation substitutes the equivalent English language word for the foreign-language word, according to the translator's sense of the meaning. A transliteration keeps the foreign-language word, but substitutes Roman alphabet letters for the foreign letters, according to a formalized equivalence ...

Re: Sidpa Gyalmo mantras

Hi. I've heard using wrathful mantras without initiation may lead one to some bad consequences, ie. harming oneself and others. I'm not sure to what degree this is applicable, but if we read ie. Heart Drops of Dharmakaya, there's a line over there some dzogchen practices can lead to not so nice con...

Requesting help with visualization in Bon Medicine Buddha and Tsewang Rigzin sadhanas

Hello all I am requesting help with details of visualization in Bon Medicine Buddha (Garland of Jewels A Brief Text on the Ritual of The Medicine Deity King) and Bon Tsewang Rigzin sadhanas. Specifically I am unclear on how to visualize the "samadhi" section of Medicine Buddha and when to dissolve t...
