Ascent of Guardian Deities to the Heavens
Nichiren Daishonin teaches us in the Rissho ankoku-ron , When I, with my limited knowledge, read the sutras, I find that all people have gone against the correct Law and become wholly devoted to evil doctrines. This is why all the guardian deities have abandoned this country and sages have left this...

Re: Non-exclusivist independent Nichiren Buddhism
Hi Everone! Nichiren Daishonin was clear on mixing teachings. He states in "Reply to Ueno" ( "Ueno dono-gohenji" ), To mix other practices with this Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo is a grave error. A lamp will be useless after the sun rises. How can dewdrops be beneficial once the rain falls? Should one feed a...

Re: Daimoku Sansho
2:30am is tough! I remember a couple super-early gongyos like that back in the old NSA days during events.. as uncomfortable as it is, there is an undeniable potency in having the full assembly that early- perhaps a very clear demonstration of itaidoshin. Hi! Yes, it is quite tough. As you said the...

Re: Daimoku Sansho
I find I can last a bit longer on the bare floor vs a cushion, likewise if I'm wearing boots. Maybe something about the area of reduced circulation being smaller on the bare floor. Is seiza still the usual position in N.Shoshu when sitting on the floor? I've worked away at half-lotus as an option, ...

Re: Daimoku Sansho
I prefer the old days when the gohonzon rooms were an empty stretch of floor and a butsudan against the wall. I don't use a chair or even a cushion with my altar, guests don't get them either :D . That said, if the game is an hour tozo then I confess its a bit easier to get it done on a chair... Ha...

Daimoku Sansho
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueLgADI6PAc To begin Buddhist chanting in the Nichiren Shoshu tradition, you start with Daimoku Sansho. The word Daimoku means the supreme invocation or Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo. This expression also indicates the chanting of Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo. The word Sansho means thr...

Re: how changes affect us in Nichiren Shonin's denominations
Hey Minobu, Hope all is well. Nichiren Daishonin's signature right under the Daimoku is not only on the Dai-Gohonzon. Also, if you look at most of Nikko Shonin's Gohonzons, the signature Nichiren is right under the Daimoku. Based on the doctrines of Nichiren Shoshu, I personally do not feel it is ap...

Chanting Daimoku for Oneself and Others
Lecture in Praise of Nichiren Daishonin December 2014, Oko Lecture In the Gosho, "Questions and Answers on Embracing the Lotus Sutra" ( "Jimyō hokke mondō-shō" ), Nichiren Daishonin states: Single-mindedly chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and encourage others to do the same. This will remain as your only ...

Re: Rebirth and the Ten Worlds in the different Nichiren traditions
The ten worlds ( jikkai ) do not exist outside of our minds. The doctrine of the mutual possession of the ten worlds ( jikkai gogu ) teaches that we can manifest any of the ten worlds at any moment of life. We are continually reborn into this Saha world. In what conditions we are born into are based...

Re: Rebirth and the Ten Worlds in the different Nichiren traditions
So if Murano Sensei is saying here that Nichiren Buddhists who die will join the Buddha's Sangha on Mount Sacred Eagle in the Purified Saha World, then that seems to imply that the Purified Saha World already exists. However, John's post seems to indicate that the Purified Saha World will only exis...

Re: Rebirth and the Ten Worlds in the different Nichiren traditions
When we say the Buddha's Eternal Pure Land ...why is it for most of us it seems more like a form of a hell we live in... because that Pure Land has to realized... it's not like Buddha created this saha world...leave that up to Abrahamic religions. Very true. The principle of esho funi or "oneness o...

Re: Rebirth and the Ten Worlds in the different Nichiren traditions
This saha world is the eternal pure land of the Buddha. The goal of our practice is sokushin jobutsu - 即身成仏 - attaining buddhahood in one's present form.

Re: Rissho Kosei Kai - what are the differences with Nichiren Shu?
I will be perfectly honest and say that I do not know for sure the historical background behind the differences in chanting Daimoku (Nam or Namu) If an English Nichiren Shoshu lecture or writing says "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo", one should note that in the original Japanese lecture one would not see any d...

Re: Let's Discuss - Is Nichiren Hombutsu?
You mentioned The Shujyu Onfurumai Gosho. This is all I found: "Although I myself may be insignificant, I propagate the Lotus Sutra and therefore am the envoy of Shakyamuni Buddha." Do you know the English title? Mark Hi Mark, I believe it is “On the Buddha’s Behavior”. It was written in 1276. Here...
