Re: Special Days

There used to be an open source alpha software for free download many years ago, that was a very detailed calendar that used to include the type of positive and negative spirits that were linked to the hours and minutes etc, it was very good. Does anybody know if it’s still around? Many thanks. Sor...

Re: What is Dzogchen?

Malcolm presents dzogchen in traditional way, with proper explanation of its history etc, as is correct regarding its structure of teaching. Scoring an “own goal” by not being open to the opportunities of advice given would be a self imposed limitation of ones own attitude. So when the advice is, fi...

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine

Maybe not, but we can talk about the history and source of Shentong realization. It comes from the Kalachakra. Specifically as practiced in Eastern Tibet by what I will call proto-Jonangpas. Prior to his contact with these people Dolpopa was a Sakya scholar. He was brought around to their way of se...

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine

.....accepting we're basically pissing into the wind with such discussions. Hi tobes, I just pick out the things that jump out, I have a thing for excessive over quoting, Well sure, but I wouldn’t say it’s pissing in the wind to make course corrections on the path of learning. But I get your point....

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine

So a few posts back I typed.. in mahamudra it’s called “one taste”, but in dzogchen It’s called simplicity, and centers around emptiness and experience, whether it is subtle, very subtle or incredibly subtle, it’s still subtle. shentong can get you to the stage of one taste, Subtle here being the m...

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine

It had to do with Shentong dismissing appearances as false and positing an Absolute beyond appearances. Then, once that Absolute has been ‘seen’, appearances can retroactively be understood as expressions of the Absolute. Mahamudra, on the other hand, looks for the Ansolute in appearances from the ...

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine

So if there was a difference in view, even if slight, would be nice if I could see that. Even if it’s just an intellectual indulgence. Thanks There’s two problems here. One is that I can’t remember where I read it. It was some Thrangu R. book. So I can’t give a citation. The second is that I didn’t...

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine

Also I’ve read where Thrangu R. has explained that Shentong view and Mahamudra view are slightly different. But that’s for another thread. Tsultrim Gymatso taught the kagyu shentong view a few times I attended, I still don’t know if that was his preferred position on sugatta essence? If I recall Bo...

Re: How is shentong different from tirthika doctrine

I think we have to recognise that philosophy-metaphysics-arguments are only going to take us so far on this question. In the end, we are comparing yogic realisation X with yogic realisation Y. In both traditions, this far exceeds what can be stated about it. And who is in any kind of position to le...

Zangthal will continue Master Norbu’s longsal?
Don’t chase names. Go to the essence.
Master Norbu’s essence would be “it is ok”.

Thanks for sharing. Separate ancient cultures appear to share similar myths of strangers
arriving by the sea in strange “ships”.

Re: variations of 100 syllable mantra and meaning?

I'm a bit confused. As a child I learned the 100 syllable mantra by heart, not how to write it, only how to say it. when I google it now, there are so many different versions of it an none that is exactly like the one I learned. Why? Is mine wrong? I forgot to mention that variations in the Vajrasa...

So his terma and practices revealed in his dreams are lost as a practice beyond the current people to whom they were given.
We will see.
Someone here already mentioned in another thread, China.
Rinpoche mentioned that longsal will “flourish in China”.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

:coffee: This is going to read not so well, but why was this even a question? Master Norbu repeatedly said what to do, was anyone paying attention? I’m genuinely surprised by that question. I don’t recall master Norbu teaching dzogchen as a faster way to develop strong attachments. I’m a minority o...

Re: Namkhai Norbu lineage

Simply, I think because he was the master, and we were his students. If we as students knew the same as the master, we would also be a master. Then we wouldn’t be transmitting his lineage, we would be transmitting our own lineage. Does that make any sense? No, no sense at all. You need to understan...
