That would be a fun theory if we did not know the etymology already. It has ancient Semitic origins and was a very common name.

Ngondro required for Chod?
Is it necessary to complete Ngondro before receiving a Chod empowerment / teachings (LN, for example) and undertaking the practise?

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?
Abandoning the Dharma means to leave the Dharma and stop practicing and believing in it as a refuge. Although Vajrasattva purifies all negative karma, the following mantra is specific for purifying the negative karma of having left the Dharma. Sarvavid Vairochana Mantra OM NA-MO BHA-GA-WA-TE SAR-WA...

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?
If you mean a monk returning to regular life, or a Buddhist practitioner pushing meditation and other Buddhist Activities and concerns down on their list of priorities, That’s not the same thing as, say, renouncing Buddhism altogether. I was thinking more along the lines of someone becoming an athe...

Re: What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?
I've seen this mentioned before especially in relation to the karmic consequences. What do you mean? Like constantly tripping over your shoe laces and face planting into a door, or some other type of pratfall? I'd imagine the karma of abandoning efforts towards realisation would mean no realisation...

What is 'abandoning the Dharma'?
I've seen this mentioned before especially in relation to the karmic consequences. But what does it entail? Can someone who this applies to return to Dharma in this life? And if so, can we really talk about anyone abandoning the Dharma if they're still alive and might return to practising?

Re: Prophecy of Padmasambhava in the Nirvana Sutra
That depends on whether you are Catholic Tibetan Buddhist, in which case you believe in actual transubstantiation, or a Protestant Tibetan Buddhist, in which case you believe they are merely symbols. :-) As a former Presbyterian, the latter is how I interpret things. Thought Presbyterians go for re...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu
Has Rinpoche ever mentioned who the guardians in the African continent are? I've not come across it, and just checked the Teachings on the Thun and Ganapuja book. If he hasn't perhaps use the 'Local Guardians of Place and Time'? dharma isn't widely spread there, so there is no dharmapala. i think. ...

Absolutly not true. Rigpa tsel wang is indispensable. No debate whatsoever Okay. Please, why is this so? I always liked the analogy that it is like someone introducing you to another person. They say to you, "This is Bob." Now you know who Bob is. You may have passed by him a hundred times in the p...

And the logical reasoning provided by traditional Buddhist teachers is hardly persuasive for modern educated people well familiar with logic and critical thinking.

Re: Historical Buddha
Do we have any historical proof that Shakyamuni Buddha existed ? Besides the sutras and numerous ordination lineages tracing back to Buddha, there is archaeological evidence too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edicts_of_Ashoka And there`s no historical proof of Jesus's existence whatsoever. That's a...

Re: I don't want parinirvana,should I follow a different path?
I do want sentience for ever, and I rather be alive and suffering somewhat in the 3 realms then to be nonsentient and not suffering.thats just me.others are maybe different.a Buddha has no vijnana and no awareness, and some argue that a buddha still has some awareness as a living buddha, but a buddha ...

Re: What Future Paths are there?
With years still left in my life, I wanted to ask, what paths or “levels” are there usually in each of the 4 major lineages? I’ve heard the Nyingmapas following ngöndro and Longchen Nyinthig, however, I am not sure on what other paths are like. For now, I’m just a sticking with the basics but when ...
