Re: Instructions on Chinese Buddhist Deity Worship

Not familiar with Chinese Buddhist Deity worship. These deities that some appear in Buddhism are mainly worshipped with rituals in folklore Taoism.

In Vajrayana Buddhism, there are complete sets of offerings, rituals to Dharma Protectors collectively or individually

Re: Can we revive Mahavairocana lineage in China?

As others have mentioned, this has happened to some extent. However, there have been legitimacy problems due to how Shingon Buddhism functions institutionally and how most of these revivalist movements have gone about establishing themselves. Recently, I read a paper called "Replanting the Bod...

Can we revive Mahavairocana lineage in China?

Hi all fellow practitioners, I have some questions. China used to have Mahavairocana lineage n practises but lost it due to oppression from the state. The lineage survived in Japan to this day. Why don't a monk or somebody go bring it back (invite)? What is stopping them? I imagine if one day, Tibet...

2. Change your DNS. Write down your original DNS in case this is important to you, then try alternating between the DNS of Google and OpenDNS. See if there's any difference. Are there any other sites with similar issues as DW for you? If so, it could be DNS. Also, you don't need to reboot computer ...

Re: Killing an animal doesn't break the first precept?

I like Padma's answer but I want to add something. First of all if you know even the Buddha in the past lives can not stop from killing, then it should be know that it is impossible to stay away from killing 100 percent in every lives if you are not enlightened, at least to stream enterer. So why k...

Re: Killing an animal doesn't break the first precept?

Buddhists r generally told not to kill, not even an animal. All beings were once our parents. One shall not eat meat that is seen, heard n suspected killed for u, the practise of freeing captured animals like birds... These r the same message in Han Buddhism n Tibetan Buddhism. All these r clearly a...

Pure Land Master Chin Kung passed away in Taipei, Taiwan aged 95

https://i.redd.it/jffkpul7fud91.jpg Master Chin Kung was one of the most important figures in 21st century Chinese Buddhism. The venerable master was born in 1927 and became a monk in 1959, receiving the Dharma-name 淨空 (Chin Kung / Jìngkōng) which means "Pure Emptiness." He deeply studied...

The eyes should gaze at the direction of ur nose tip, not looking at it. Focus ur mind on the inside of ur nostrils near ur eyes. Feel the air flow in n out of it. U can gently press ur nostrils so that u can clearly feel the air flows. If u cant calm ur mind, use the technique where u breathe in n ...

Re: Qigong / Chinese Alchemy in East Asian Mahayana Buddhism?

The most obvious proof of qigong practise by Mahayana Buddhist monks is Shaolin. It was said that Bodhidharma taught the monks qigong martial arts to make them healthier. And rumours had it that Bodhidharma had been studying The Book of Change (Yi Jing) in India, before his arrival in China. My Rinp...

That is the only version i know of in Chinese. There is one translation to which i find quite close to its meaning in Chinese, the translation by The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas: http://www.cttbchinese.org/menu9_english_dharma161.htm It retains most of the characters in its translation. Here is my ...

Re: “Bodhisattva Gaia” and “Vairocana Sun”

Right, it's definitely a misunderstanding for people to conflate Vairocana with the sun Vairocana in sanskrit means solar, son of the Sun...etc. In Buddhism, he i called the Sun Buddha or the Great Illuminator. Hence, Mahavoirocana is 大日如来 (the Great Sun Buddha) in Chinese Japanese, Vietnamese... i...

Re: Like Feature for DW Forum

If someone could design a more thoughtful messaging system for responses than like vs dislike I’d be open to it. As it stands though we’d literally be asking people to record attachment or aversion to certain posts. From the perspective of a Buddhist forum it seems like an unhealthy idea. Quite agr...

It’s this emoji: :good: For this to work, forumer has to enter reply mode then select emojis. It shows in separate posts. People can't tell how many have reacted to a particular post as it is not shown in a collective form on the post. But this seems to be the best option now. Cheers

Re: Like Feature for DW Forum

I think likes could be detrimental to a discussion based forum. While it would be nice to see your post is appreciated we already get plenty of dopamin from twitter and facebook. Also it could influence how one perceives the post in a "it has many likes must be true" way. Or maybe enable ...

Re: Like Feature for DW Forum

I really enjoy DW as a like-free zone. Overcoming attachment and refusal is a core practice in Buddhism. And I saw much distraction and confusion resulting from the like-tool in other places, because good posts that include much work of thought and typing often get few likes. Maybe the reason for t...

Re: Like Feature for DW Forum

I think it has pros and cons. It's a good way for people to give feedback without having to write anything, and it can let people know their posts are being appreciated. On the down side it has a whiff of "Facebook-ization" to it. But I could certainly live with it. Alternatively, it can ...

Dear Mods n Admins, is it possible to have a 'Like' feature to enable forumers to like a certain post? This makes the forum a lot 'warmer' with reaction from readers. The number of Likes can be shown on the corner of the post, maybe on the bottom-right of that post. And maybe a few names from the la...

Re: Young Asian American Buddhists are reclaiming narrative after decades of white dominance

Interesting topic. I think Asian American Buddhists wants to see more representation of their 'versions' of Buddhism in mainstream America. Any market for their voices? If the target market is largely the white population of America, there shouldn't be any issue if the views r mostly from their own ...
