Tenpyozan Monastery

I found an article from 2015 about this new training monastery going up in Northern California? Is it up yet? Anyone know the back story and if they are taking students yet? Who runs it?

Re: Zen Commitments

Sorry for opening up the can of worms. In short, perhapse this discussion is better served in the general Zen forum than the “Soto” sub which I posted to accidentally. In general I’m interested in learning meditation to clear away confusion, cut through illusion, not add to it. So i guess the questi...

Sesshin

Is there any real need to prepare for sesshin? Or should i just go for it as a beginner? It seems to me like its not something you can really prepare for?

Studying at Sogen-Ji

Has anyone here studied with Harada Roshi at Sogenji? I have no formal training and am a few hours from any credible zen training. However, I just found that this training center in Japan accepts western students. I may have the ability to go for 2-4 weeks at a time, but I’m trying to understand if ...

Zen Commitments

What are the commitments associated with studying with a Zen teacher in the formal sense? I understand from reading about various lineages of Buddhism that sometime there are requirements to stay with the same teacher, never speak out against them etc....even of they have fallen from their own path....

Yoko-Ji Zen Mountain Center

Hi All, I am new to Zen Buddhism and am looking to start studying with a teacher. The closest place to me that seem to offer legitimate training is Yoko Ji Zen Moutain Center outside of LA in the mountains. Does anyone have anyone feedback on this place and the Roshi there? His name is Tenshin Roshi...
